Welcome back Josh Rutledge, and welcome to 2013! While this wasn't his first game back up from AAA, Josh displayed what we saw last year by going three for four with a triple and providing needed excitement at the two spot in the order. Michael Cuddyer also provided a strong performance and Todd Helton hit home run number 366 of his career to continue the Rockies' domination of Edinson Volquez.
Jorge De La Rosa pitched six strong innings, giving up two earned runs as he tied the National League lead with 16 wins. However, the star for the night has to be Manny Corpas. He came in when the Rockies again forgot to play a full game, this time in the eighth inning. An error combined with a poor outing from Matt Belisle got the Dodgers within two runs and runners on the corners with only one out. Manny struck out Carl Crawford and then struck out Yasiel Puig on a 3-2 pitch to end the threat.
Because nothing seems to happen good these days for the Rockies without something bad, Nolan Arrenado had to leave the game after injuring his thumb/hand in his second at-bat. Expect more news in this front in the rockpile tomorrow morning.
This win allowed the Rockies to finish this homestand at 5-4 as they depart on an NL West road trip that begins in San Diego on Friday.
