A couple of weeks ago, I made a FanPost hoping to create a Rockies Hall of Fame. The premise was fairly simple. We would vote for retired ex-Rockies and any player who received over 75% of the vote would be inducted. Anyone who received a vote would by eligible again next year. There were 38 ballots cast, and a total of 31 players who received votes. Without further ado, here's your Rockies Hall of Fame Class of 2014 (as voted by Purple Row)!
1B Todd Helton 1997-2013 (100% of the vote)
Todd Helton received 100% of the vote, as it should be. He is indubitably the most deserving Rockies HOFer of any one to put on the Purple Pinstripes. The Helton retirement pieces have been plentiful, so I won't add much here. I will however post this, in case you forgot how awesome Todd was in the 5 or so months he's been gone.
RF Larry Walker 1995-2004 (97.4% of the vote)
Similarly to Todd Helton, there was no doubt in my mind that Larry Walker, despite his real-life HOF struggles, would be a 1st ballot Rockies HOFer. Walker was an electrifying player, an MVP, and my favorite player. There was tons written on Walker around HOF time, including a short paragraph in this SB nation piece.
Here are the results
Both Galarraga and Castilla came one vote away from induction, signifying that they are very likely to make it next year. I found it fascinating that our Hall of Fame had striking similarities to the real Hall of Fame. We used similar politics, denying Walker 100%, and staving off surefire HOFer's in Castilla and Galarraga so that Helton and Walker would get a separate distinction.
Anyways, I thought this was really fun/fascinating, and I appreciate all those who voted. I hope we can do this again next year!
