Party Deck Thread #1: Opening Day 2014

image from @roxrooftop with no changes, pretty sure: hosted on

Welcome to the Purple Row Party Deck! The OT has changed, but we're going to make the best of it. For our lurkers and new commenters, this is where our off-topic conversations go when a game isn't happening.

From Purple Row site manager Jeff Aberle, in his Welcome To Purple Row! post (which you should read first!):

[T]he purpose of the Party Deck is to give our community members a space to discuss their diverse non-baseball interests. One of the great things about this community is that it really does have people from all walks in life, with a common thread being their love of the Rockies. The Party Deck is a forum about non-baseball interests[.]

The same guidelines that apply to the rest of the site regarding conduct, language and the like apply to the Party Deck the same way it does to the rest of the site. While not posted by the staff, these threads will still be moderated by them. Even though this is off-topic, subject matter that could quickly become heated (politics/religion of course being the big ones) are still not allowed. Refrain from directly posting NSFW items, of course (youtube links to songs with such lyrics are allowed if the link is prefaced with NSFW)

The Walking Dead airing last night provides me with a good segue for the rest of this post - for new commenters, when you go to reply to a comment or post a new comment, you will see B I U --- all sorts of things -- and the last one will be a black box. This is the "spoilers" function. Please make liberal use of it!

Also, please don't hotlink images; there are many image-hosting services around. It's 2:05 in the morning so only imgur and photobucket come to mind, but there are others. Please use the link feature to create links, don't paste them raw into the body of your comment, it is kind of gross looking. Links won't work at all in the subject line of your comment. On a related note, the code used by SBNation generally makes links open in the same window, make sure to right click them so you don't lose your place.

If, in the body of your comment, you surround your text with @ symbols, (for example "@I really like the SF Giants@" ) your text will be given a monospaced style. This is what our commenters mean by "The sarcasm font." Much like links, this only works in the body of a comment, not a subject line.

This season, I am hoping we can put together the Purple Row Wiki (you all forgot about this, didn't you?) to give people a place to READ AND LEARN about the site.

These threads might reach a couple hundred comments before you wake up in the morning. That's okay! If you have something you want to bring up, just make a new comment and it will be found. I've found that somewhere between 500 and 800 comments is where threads begin to bog down and lag, so once a Party Deck thread reaches 600 comments, a new Party Deck thread will be created the following morning, even on Saturday or Sunday. It might be by me, but it can be by any of you just the same in case I oversleep!

That's that (unless it isn't, and I forgot something important.) In the traditional off-topic spirit, here is a silly poll.

Eat. Drink. Be Merry. But the above FanPost does not necessarily reflect the attitudes, opinions, or views of Purple Row's staff (unless, of course, it's written by the staff [and even then, it still might not]).
