"A" Ball Observations From Asheville

Opening night at beautiful McCormack Field in Asheville NC. It was a great night for a season opener, mid 70's temperature and a sold out crowd. The beer was cheap and the girls were beautiful (and for all you lady's the men were handsome also).

Yesterday I had an opportunity to interact with a few of you great Rockies fans and I promised to post my observations from last nights season opener. I'd like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome over here on the Purple Row. I have to say you all have much nicer discourse going on here than I see on Bleed Cubbie Blue where I normally hang out.

I asked who do I need to keep an eye on and received a nice number of responses. Dahl, McMahon, Briceno, Prime, Jiminian, etc.

OK Dahl...wow this guy hits the ball hard. Triple off the wall and if he had hit it 4 feet to the left it would have been out as it was it was about 28 feet up the wall. played a nice center field and barely missed making a great leaping catch at the wall.

McMahon...If I remember correctly 3 hits and none were cheap.

Briceno... The guy I was the most impressed with. Called a great game and is very involved with his pitchers. You could see him calming them down and keeping their heads in the game. 5th inning basses loaded no outs. Jiminian looks like he's coming apart, the body language is all wrong and you can see the frustration on his face. Briceno calls a conference and you can see Jiminian stand up straighter and start to smile. a strikeout a popup and a groundout later no runs score and at that point you just know the games over. If this kid keeps this up he'll be a keeper.

Jiminian...high 80's low 90's through 6 with an occasional mid 90's FB. started overthrowing in the 5th but came back out in the 6th and showed no effect of an almost bad inning. If get's some good secondary pitches he should be pretty good. maybe a 4 or 5 starter.

Anyway that's it guys and gals. We had a great time and the ballgame was fun. If any of you ever get to WNC you need to try McCormack Field, it's a great place for a ball game.
