After an uninspired loss in the series opener in Cleveland last night, the Rockies will look to bounce back this afternoon and avoid taking a third consecutive loss.
Also looking to bounce back will be Rockies starting pitcher Franklin Morales. It has been a rough go of things so far for Morales, as he has posted a 5.65 ERA in 57 1/3 innings in his 11 appearances, 10 of which were starts. Morales has especially struggled in May. allowing 23 earned runs in 26 2/3 innings over his five starts this month.
Morales will face an Indians lineup that looks very similar to the one Terry Francona used against Juan Nicasio last night. The lone change to the Cleveland lineup sees Mike Aviles get the start at second base in place of Jason Kipnis and bat ninth.
On the mound for the Indians today is 23-year-old right-hander Trevor Bauer. The third overall pick in 2011, Bauer will be making his fourth big league start of 2014. In his first three starts this season, he has posted a 3.83 ERA in 16 1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings in his last start against Baltimore, walking three and striking out eight.
The Rockies lineup he will face has a different look to it. Michael Cuddyer moves back up in the order to the two-hole, but the biggest change for him will be that he is starting at third base for the first time since July 6, 2010. Cuddyer's move to third sends Charlie Culberson to the bench and means Drew Stubbs will get a start in center field, batting sixth.
First pitch at Progressive Field is set for 1:05 Mountain time.
