If you've been paying any attention to the Rockies at all, you are witnessing new and bold different methods of losing. Losing due to mental errors. Losing due to defensive errors. Losing on the basepaths and losing on the mound. It's time to cut it out.
They didn't have any luck against the Brewers, who are a pretty good team. Now they have to face the Cardinals, who are also pretty good. No rest for the wicked I guess. But I got a good feeling about this one. Don't ask me why. Maybe I'm just an optimist.
Jhoulys Chacin is finally starting to turn it around, though he's walking too many batters and striking out too few. His 4.53 ERA isn't terrible at Coors Field. He'll be opposed by Lance Lynn, a solid journey-man type with a very fine 3.15 ERA. Let's see if we can punch it up a bit.
The Cardinals have a fully healthy lineup (gee, must be nice), including Former Rockie Greats Matt Holliday and Mark Ellis. The Cardinals have a surprisingly weak 93 wRC+ this year, mostly due to down years from Holliday, Molina, and Allen Craig. Kolton Wong has pretty much flopped and Ellis hasn't been much better.
The Rockies are trotting out the best lineup they can at this point, with Culberson at third and Stubbs in center. Arenado and Carlos Gonzalez are dearly missed, but thems the breaks, ain't they?
