The Rockies are certainly at a pitching disadvantage on Friday, when they open their series against Justin Verlander and the Tigers with Franklin Morales on the hill.
Verlander hasn't been his usual self this season and is pretty much Detroit's fifth starter. Of course, only a small part of that is the results of any fault of his own; the Tigers boast a rotation that also includes Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez, Rick Porcello and now David Price. Colorado will miss Price and Scherzer, but it will still be very much an uphill battle.
The one sliver of hope the Rockies have lies with the addition of the designated hitter. On Friday, the Rox will use Carlos Gonzalez, with Drew Stubbs, Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson manning the outfield. Josh Rutledge is also back in action and presumably healthy after dealing with an illness during Colorado's series in Chicago, so that can only really help, right? Right.
