Adam Ottavino back in game action — and Rockies have his return mapped out | The Denver Post
Adam Ottavino threw 21 pitches in a live baseball game on Friday. The Rockies' big right hander pitched 2/3 of an inning for the Modesto Nuts, allowing two runs on two hits, a walk and a strikeout. It was Ottavino’s first taste of game action since April 25th, 2015, and just the first step in what will become a month-long journey through several minor league levels.
The Rockies want to ensure Ottavino — tentatively scheduled to make his return to the big club just after the All-Star break — comes back prepared for the challenges of a major league season. This will include increased pitch counts, working consecutive days, bunting, fielding, etc. According to manager Walt Weiss, Ottavino’s trek through the minors is already mapped out. And if all goes well, he’s just 30 days out.
Hampson doesn’t fit profile of ‘Shortstop U’ | MLB.com
In a familiar sounding selection during the third round of the MLB Draft, the Rockies took a shortstop from Long Beach State. At 5’11, 175, Garret Hampson is much slighter than the Dirt Bags’ trademark shortstop build. But though he’s no Troy Tulowitzki in stature, Hampson has quick feet, a strong arm and speed on the basepath. Scouts figure Hampson may require a position change in pro ball, either to second base or a utility role. Wherever he ends up, he’ll take the valuable insight into major league success he gained from working with Tulowitzki, Evan Longoria and other notable alumni during his time at Long Beach State.
MLB Draft 2016: Rockies plan to keep Robert Tyler, Ben Bowden ‘in their current roles’ - Purple Row
On a call following Thursday’s Day 1 selections, Jeff Bridich briefed reporters on the club’s current plans for each of their first three draftees. The Rockies feel as if they know what they’re getting in fourth-overall pick Riley Pint, claiming no immediate plan to make major changes to his delivery. As for Robert Tyler and Ben Bowden, the club will keep them in their current roles for now — Tyler as a starter, Bowden a reliever. Bryan Kilpatrick has more from Bridich and scouting director Bill Schmidt on the Rockies first three draft picks.
