A pair of solo home runs from Mark Reynolds were among the five hit by the Colorado Rockies in Monday’s 5-3 win over the Miami Marlins.
All eight runs in the game came via the solo home run, with Reynolds and Miami’s Marcell Ozuna each hitting a pair. The five home runs hit by the Rockies were the most hit by any team in Marlins Park history.
Miami got on the board in the bottom of the first with back-to-back homers by Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton against Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa, giving Miami a 2-0 lead. Stanton’s home run was his first since May 24.
A Rockies rally in the second began with one of the more bizarre at bats you’ll ever see. Trevor Story swung at a 3-2 pitch that ended up hitting him. Seeing the deflection, home plate umpire Ron Kulpa ruled the pitch a foul ball, a call that is not reviewable by instant replay, giving Story a second chance that he took advantage, hitting the next pitch into the stands for his 18th home run of the season.
After a Ryan Raburn ground out, Reynolds and Nick Hundley hit back-to-back home runs of their own to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead.
The game stayed at 3-2 until Ozuna tied it with his second home run of the game and third in the last two days.
Reynolds responded in the sixth, hitting his second homer of the night, his first multi-home run game for the Rockies, giving Colorado a 4-3 lead it would not relinquish.
After surrendering a three-run home run to Ozuna on Sunday, Rockies reliever again entered the game with two on in the seventh, but this time got an inning-ending double play from Martin Prado.
Jason Motte and Carlos Estevez closed the game out, allowing just one hit in the final two innings that was erased on a game-ending double play.
The Rockies will now travel to New York, opening a two-game series with the Yankees tomorrow as Chad Bettis takes on Ivan Nova.
