Chris Rusin tossed six shutout innings and Daniel Descalso knocked in the eventual game-winning run in the Colorado Rockies' 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
Rusin allowed just three hits and a walk while inducing 11 ground outs, including one that ended the Dodgers' bases-loaded threat in a strange bottom of the fifth.
After striking out Howie Kendrick to begin the frame, Rusin allowed a single and walk, setting up a sacrifice bunt attempt for Dodgers hurler Kenta Maeda. The opposing pitcher did just that, but the Rockies failed to get an out on the play because ... well ...

DJ LeMahieu caught the ball while not standing on the bag, loading the bases for Enrique Hernandez. Rusin got a huge strikeout on a foul tip before retiring Justin Turner to end the inning.
Colorado broke a 0-0 tie a couple of innings later when Gerardo Parra doubled with one out and Descalso knocked him in two batters later on a liner to center field. It was the first run the Rockies scored against Maeda in 13 innings this season.
Four Rockies relievers -- including Carlos Estevez, who struck out the side in the eighth -- combined for three scoreless innings to preserve Rusin's solid outing.
Descalso was the lone Rockies hitter to reach base more than once, finishing 1-for-2 with a walk. They were fortunate to get a win on a night when Carlos Gonzalez and Nolan Arenado finished a combined 0-for-8 with six strikeouts. CarGo was saddled with the ol' golden sombrero, becoming the first player in Rockies history to strike out four or more times in consecutive games, per the ROOT Sports broadcast.
The Rockies return home with a 27-32 record and will face the Pittsburgh Pirates in a make-up game on Thursday before welcoming the San Diego Padres for a weekend series.
