Only two games were played on the farm on Wednesday, but both the Yard Goats and Tourists both came out on top of in slugfests.
Kyle Freeland (no. 8 PuRP) had a tough day at the yard, allowing ten hits and six runs (two unearned) in six innings of work. He allowed four (4) home runs on the day, including two to shortstop Wilmer Difo (career .391 slugging percentage in 1989 minor league at bats), two walks and just one lonely strikeout. This continues a concerning run of form for the 2014 eighth overall pick. In his last five starts Freeland has a 5.83 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched with just 14 strikeouts against ten walks. Fortunately for Freeland and the Yard Goats, the offense staged a rally to come away with a 7-6 victory.
First baseman Brian Mundell has been tearing the cover off the ball lately for the Asheville Tourists. Fresh of his selection to the South Atlantic League All-Star game, Mundell went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Tourists to a 10-8 victory. In the past seven days he's hitting .409/.440/.545 and on the season he sports a .359/.412/.543 line with 32 (!) doubles and a 29:22 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Keep that in mind for the next round of PuRPs voting.
