My MLB Team Ranking

It's a Friday afternoon and I'm one of 5 people still in the office so lets do this. There will probably be a swathe of teams in the middle that I won't have much to say about but I'll try to say something about at least the top and bottom 5. Here. We. Go.

  1. Rockies - I've been a Rockies fan almost literally my entire life. I was there day 1 (although I don't remember much about it) and will continue to follow the team as long as they exist.
  2. Royals - I worked for the Royals AAA team in Omaha and thus watched most of their WS Champ team come up through the system. Pretty surreal to see guys like Cain, Moustakas, and Hosmer go from our little field in Papillion to winning the World Series
  3. Brewers - I lived in Madison, WI 4 years before recently making it back to good 'ol Colorado. Brewers had that good small market feel that the Rockies have.
  4. Pirates - Mostly because I like Clint Hurdle. Also a team that hasn't won big in a while but is looking good.
  5. Braves - Back in the mid-late 90's I rooted for the Braves whenever the Rockies weren't in the Post-season (which was obviously a lot)
  6. Orioles - This is where the rankings start to get suspect. From here until near the end its based mostly on if I have been to their home field and liked it. Or if they just have a cool logo or whatever. I'm make a short note as appropriate. For the O's, I've been outside of Camden Yards and it looked cool. I also like their colors
  7. Houston - Minute Maid park is nice and I like their logo redesign.
  8. Mariners - Always hope for them to do well. Also helps that their stadium look a lot like Coors (which I believe was an inspiration for their park)
  9. Twins - Their stadium is unlike any other I have been to. It feels like it got dropped right in the middle of downtown and must have the smallest footprint of any MLB stadium. Also cool that you can get right off of the train and be right outside the gate. The team is alright too I guess.
  10. Rangers - Freshman roommate was a big fan
  11. Blue Jays - Combination of wishing the best for Tulo and having a soft spot for the non-Yankee/Red Sox AL East teams
  12. Rays - See above but with Dickerson I guess?
  13. Nationals - Liked them a lot when they first moved to DC
  14. A's - Always have a scrappy team and I feel that they have to play in a crappy stadium
  15. Mets - This is where there are a bunch of teams that I have almost no feeling on either way reside. I guess I'll rank by logo/colors then.
  16. Angels
  17. Marlins
  18. Tigers
  19. Reds
  20. White Sox
  21. Indians
  22. Padres - Padres have the distinction of being the NL West team that I dislike the least
  23. Phillies - Closest team we have to a playoff rival. Still a bit salty about '09.
  24. Diamondbacks - I hate their stupid pool in the outfield and their new jerseys/brand suck
  25. Dodgers - Dodgers are higher than I would have thought they would be on this list, but my dislike for the team is balanced out by how of all the teams whose fans flock to Coors each year I find Dodger fans to be the nicest. This matters a lot as you will soon see.
  26. Cardinals - The prefect mix of annoying fans and annoying team. I will say that their stadium is very nice.
  27. Red Sox - I have a soft spot for Boston, the city. I traveled there a bunch for work a couple years ago and the city is pretty neat. Their team on the other hand. I hope they never win again.
  28. Yankees - Chapman. Yeah, Chapman
  29. Cubs - So the Cubs, the team, are not really my second most hated team. I was happy for the players to win the WS last year and don't really have any hatred for any of their players. The fans on the other hand. There are times when I would trade sweeping the Cubs at Coors for losing every other game in the season. My most hated thing in all of baseball is watching Cubs fans at Coors wave those stupid W flags around.
  30. Giants - The Giants are my most hated team for a combination of reasons. First, the team itself is constructed of a group of human beings that don't even look like they should be able to win an intermural softball league let alone multiple world championships. I mean have you seen Hunter Pence (he actually seems like a cool dude in person, but come on). Second, their stadium is terrible. They forgot to build bullpens and there is that stupid part of the outfield where dreams go to die and way too many inside the park homeruns are hit. Third, I don't believe that their fans truly appreciate the level of success that their team has had in the last 8 or so years. Winning as many WS as they have is NOT easy and I feel like most of their fans take that success for granted.

Well this has been a fun way to spend a half hour. I would love to see what Purple Row's aggregate rankings look like (I wonder how many times we will see the Giants at #30?)
