FPF - Five Predicitons for the 2017 Season

Predictions are always a fun amusement. We as a society love order from chaos and reading that experts are confident in something happening in a particular way provides us comfort as we are more willing to be comfortable and believe that the outcome is more certain than it actually is. Of course in general most predictions are at least slightly off. There will be people who predict something with complete accuracy, but that is more of a law of averages instead of any real ability to truly predict uncertainty in the future. I personally try to avoid making predictions that are extremely specific and instead tend to hedge my bets so to speak, but in sports, there is little risk in guessing wrong for a fan thankfully.

With that, I have my predictions setup in range of most likely to be accurate down to "Oh please, oh please let this happen!"

Prediction One

One player on the Colorado Rockies who is on the opening day roster will miss a significant portion of the season due to injury.

Look at me going out on a limb there! I wanted something here that was extremely likely to happen. Pretty confident in this prediction though.

Prediction Two

At lest two players will win the Silver Slugger award.

Stop me, I'm a wild man! This prediction makes a lot of sense considering how talented our offense is. This could literally be anyone in the starting lineup on opening day, if Tom Murphy starts over Wolters. And while I really like Wolters I don't see him winning a Silver Slugger unless something really cool happens.

Prediction Three

The bullpen will be significantly improved this year.

Ok, had to go out on a limb now because we are on the third prediction. Consider though that we now have Adam Ottavino healthy and Jake McGee appears to have regained velocity, young pitchers with talent will be able to fill in, Mike Dunn is not awful, and one of Greg Holland, Jason Motte, and Chad Qualls likely will be effective consistently and you have what should be an improvement year over year. Jordan Lyles and Chris Rusin get to fight it out and one of them is your long man/spot starter or even both maybe. That has to be better right?

Prediction Four

John Gray wins the Cy Young

Now I am getting into the truly creative territory. The fact is that Gray is that kind of talent. He SHOULD contend for the Cy Young if he stays healthy. He was effective last year in most of his starts and if he takes a step forward with the experience he has he can move into dominate territory. This feels like something he could pull off.

Prediction Five

Multiple Rockies Pitchers receive votes for the Cy Young award

This is really out there, and it is the one that I would truly love to see come true. If all the young talent is performing at the level they could reach this seems likely. Imagine if John and the Tyler's are all effective throughout the entire year? Even add to that one of the other young pitchers blowing up the league and you have a lot of potential candidates here.

Bonus Prediction!

A Rockies Pitcher wins Rookie of the Year.

I actually think this could happen. We have multiple candidates who are likely to see enough time in the majors to have a real chance to impress. Lets say German Marquez gets 25 starts, wins 12 games and just looks like a Major League pitcher then we have a Rookie of the year.

I truly doubt that most of these have any accuracy, but I think that with the team we have now I should be at least 17% right once the season ends! And if for some reason I am better at predictions than even I expect we have a pretty dang good year as Rockies Fans!
