Colorado Springs, W 21-5: At least some team knows how to score runs, and lots of them. Joe Koshansky hit a three-run homer for his 26th, scored five times, and, oh, he hit for the cycle (again); Mike McCoy had two solo homers, three total hits, and drove in a total of five runs; Christian Colonel had a two-run homer for his ninth of the season and three total hits; Matt Miller had four hits and drove in six runs; Humberto Cota had two RBI; and Sean Barker, Chris Frey, and Adam Melhuse (as a PH) each had an RBI. Doug Bernier and Jeff Dragicevich were the only non-pitchers to not drive in a run. They combined for 24 hits.

Josh Hall allowed one run on seven innings, but Cedrick Bowers allowed four runs in two innings.

Tulsa: No games scheduled.

Modesto, L 6-7: The Nuts led 5-4 entering the top of the ninth, but David Patton allowed an RBI single and a two-run homer to blow the save. Esmil Rogers left after five innings and four earned runs. Chris Malone allowed only one hit over the next three innings.

Kane Simmons and Nelson Robledo combined to drive in three runs in the sixth inning, the latter with two on a double. In the bottom of the ninth, the Nuts attempted a comeback. Nick Haley scored on a Victor Ferrante RBI single (his second of the night), and it appeared Mike McKenry drove in the tying run, but the ball was ruled a double. That stopped Ferrante from scoring. Lino Garcia promptly struck out for teh third and final out.

Asheville, L 3-5: Brian Rike went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, but it was David Christensen who flailed four times last night. Robinson Fabian allowed five runs (two earned) over five innings. He struck out five. Matt Reynolds and Ethan Katz threw scoreless innings of relief.

Tri-City, W 12-4: Jonnathan Aristil allowed three runs (one earned) in four innings before giving way to David Parker. He allowed a run in the fifth, but Sean Jarrett for the sixth and seventh innings and struck out four.

Ryan Peisel, hitting ninth, had the biggest hit of the night. As part of a six-run fourth inning, Peisel connected with a ball for a three-run triple. From the Tri-City Herald:

"That triple was big; it's what got us going," said manager Fred Ocasio, who got his 100th win with the Dust Devils. "Of late, (Peisel's) been getting some quality at-bats; they just hadn't been hits."

Charlie Blackmon, who had three hits and stole his 11th base, doubled in Peisel. Erik Wetzel brought Blackmon home after a passed ball and a sac fly. Austin Rauch earlier scored on a fielder's choice.

The Dust Devils scored five runs in the eighth that included an Austin Rauch two-run single, a Scott Robinson RBI single, a run scored on a throwing error, and a Thomas Field RBI single.

Casper, L 3-8: Orlando Sandoval went 4-for-4 and drove in a run. Nick Valdez stole home plate. Jeff Fischer saw four runs score over his five innings on the mound, Ronny Lopez saw two runs touch home plate in his two innings, and Andres Marrero also witnessed two guys round the bases.

Colorado Springs, W 12-4: Valerio De Los Santos allowed two unearned runs and walked three in five innings. Josh Towers entered in the seventh inning and allowed two runs on five hits to "blow" the save. Luckily for him, the offense in the bottom of the seventh had something to say about that.

Earlier in the game, Doug Bernier hit his ninth homer, a two-run shot, and Edwin Bellorin had another triple, this time bringing in a run. In the bottom of the seventh, Christian Colonel started the scoring with an RBI single, which was (after a pitching and defensive changes) followed by a Joe Koshansky grand slam. A few batters later, Chris Frey had a two-run triple and then scored on an Humberto Cota single.

Tulsa: Postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader when Midland hosts Tulsa over the weekend.

Dexter Fowler's season would be complete if he wins the gold medal with Team USA and then gets called up.

Modesto, L 2-6: Jhoulys Chacin wasn't his usual sharp self last night. He allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked one. Those runs were split evenly between the third and fifth innings with two of them put on the scoreboard by a home run. Andy Graham, Tommy Baumgardner, and James Burok allowed one hit over the last four innings

Matt Repec and Nelson Robledo each had two hits. One of those hits for both went for doubles; Mike McKenry also had a double.

Asheville, W 9-8 in 10 innings: Despite two runs allowed in the top of the 10th, the Tourists came back to win in the bottom of the inning. Brian Rike started the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a Darin Holcomb single. Both moved to theor next respective bases on a Jeff Cunningham walk. Bo Bowman then singled in Rike and Holcomb. Kevin Clark put down a sac bunt to move Cunningham into scoring position, who scored the winning run on a David Christensen single.

Darin Holcomb went 3-for-5, two of those being doubles (42). The first double scored two in the first inning. Beau Seabury hit his first homer of the season, and Everth Cabrera stole his 69th base.

Tri-City, W 3-2: Down by a run in the bottom of the ninth, a Patrick Rose RBI ground out and a Jordan Pacheco RBI single tied and won the game for the Dust Devils. Pacheco also had an RBI triple in the previous inning to put his team on board for the first time in the game.

Parker Frazier allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings. J.R. Murphy struck out three in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Casper, W 8-7: Wilin Rosario hit two homers, both solo shots, and is now at 11 for the season. Kiel Roling hit his fourth, a two-run shot. Chad Jacobsen went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Delta Cleary and Zack Murry knocked in the other runs.

Dan Houston went five innings, allowed four runs on four hits, struck out four, and walked three. Brandon Walker didn't allow a run in his inning of work, but Alan Deratt was charged with two runs after Isaiah Froneberge allowed  those inherited runners to score. Kurt Yacko picked up his eighth save after allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth.

The Springs, W 8-3: Franklin Morales allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings and struck out five. Kenny Perez drove in three runs, and Mike McCoy and Dog Bernier two. Matt Miller and Chris Frey had three hits.

Tulsa, L 5-6 in 13 innings: Daniel Carte hit his 10th homer in the fourth and drove in one of the three runs scored in the eighth inning. Eduardo Cornejo and Tony Blanco drove in the other runs that inning. Unfortunately, Darren Clarke couldn't hold the 4-1 lead Brandon Hynick left him. Hynick allowed one run on three hits in seven innings. Clarke allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Neils Wilson hit a homer in the top of the 13th, only to see Ryan Mattheus allow the game-winning two-run double.

Modesto: The Cal League had the night off.

Asheville, L 1-2: Mike Mitchell's three singles were part of a five-hit night by the Tourists. He also swiped his 45th base. Connor Graham went seven innings, allowed two runs on four hits and three walks, and struck out three.

Tri-City, L 9-13: Kenny Durst went four innings and gave up five runs, and that was one of the better Tri-City pitching performances last night.  J.R. Murphy allowed four runs in 1 2/3 innings and Tyler Trice saw three runs score on five hits in an inning. Carlos Luna struck out four and allowed a run in 2 1/3 innings.

Leonardo Reyes drove in three runs (two on a triple) while Scott Robinson (one RBI) and Ryan Peisel (two RBI) each had three hits. Austin Rauch also drove in a run and scored three times.

Casper, L 2-5: Orem's Roberto Lopez drove in all five runs for his team (four on a grand slam), and Wilin Rosario drove in both runs for Casper. Casper hitters struck out 11 times. Matt Baugh was charged with all those runs in 4 1/3 innings. Brandon Dill struck out three in 2 2/3 innings. Brandon Walker and Kurt Yacko followed with a scoreless inning each.

Colorado Springs, L 9-10 in 11 innings: The Sky Sox rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at nine, only to ultimately lose. Joe Koshansky hit his 20th home run to lead off the inning; Kenny Perez had an RBI double; Chris Frey drove in a run on a single; Mike McCoy had an RBI triple (and a two-run homer earlier in the game); and Doug Bernier reached first base on a throwing error and saw McCoy score.

Steven Register pitched the last two innings and allowed a Chris Shelton RBI double to become the winning run. Sean Smith started the game and did all right over six innings: 3 R/1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. The troubles came with Juan Morillo, who recorded no outs in the seventh inning. He faced five batters, allowed four of them to get a hit, and walked the other. Four of them scored while Morillo was on the mound while the other scored when Cedrick Bowers came in to relieve. Bowers himself walked four and one run scored that way. Josh Towers, oddly enough, didn't allow a run in his two innings of work.

Tulsa, L 6-9: It was a good night to hit  home runs . . . if  you were on NW Arkansas. Alan Johnson surrendered three homers, all multi-run homers. Johnson left after five innings and eight runs. Tomas Santiago struck out five over the next three innings.

Jeff Kindel hit a two-run homer, his 10th, in the seventh to bring the game to 6-9. Daniel Carte had two hits and two runs, and Corey Wimberly stole three bases to have 52 on the season.

Modesto, L 6-11: Simon Ferrer allowed five runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings, and Chris Malone saw four runs score in 1 2/3 innings. Mike McKenry hit his 12th home, a solo shot in the sixth. Anthony Jackson went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored. Chris Nelson went 0-for-5 and is hitting .192 after seven games.

Kane Simmons and Radames Nazario received promotions from Tri-City to Modesto yesterday. Esmil Rogers and Keith Weiser will be temporarily on the inactive list.

Asheville, L 2-4: The Tourists ran into some tough pitchers, namely Carl Pavano and Phil Hughes. Pavano allowed only a hit in two innings and struck out four. Phil Hughes held the Tourists to two hits over three innings. A wild pitch and a Bo Bowman single scored the two runs in the seventh inning. Bruce Billings allowed three runs on six hits in seven innings and struck out six in his start after throwing a no-hitter.

Tri-City, W 4-2: In the bottom of the first, Thomas Field started with a called strike out, but the next three Dust Devils walked. Patrick Rose reached base on an error, which scored two runs. In the sixth inning, two runs scored on two wild pitches. The Dust Devils only had three hits.

Kenny Durst started and allowed no runs on three hits in four innings. He struck out six. Austin Chambliss picked up his 10th save.

James Sims and Andy Goff have taken the places of Simmons and Nazario.

Casper, W 5-0: Ethan Hollingsworth allowed no runs in five innings and struck out eight, his best start of the season. Isaiah Froneberger struck out three in two innings, and Kurt Yacko struck out two in the ninth.

Carlos Martinez had two hits (one for a triple) and two RBI. Wilin Rosario also had a triple and an RBI. Forty-sixth round pick Jimmy Cesario made his debut, had a hit, and struck out three times.

Futures Game - CF Dexter Fowler and and RHPs Ryan Mattheus and Casey Weathers will appear in the Futures Game today. The game takes place at 12:30 ET on ESPN2.

Colorado Springs, W 6-5 in 10 innings - Down 3-5 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Sky Sox tied the game and eventually went on to win the game. Doug Bernier's RBI triple and Cory Sullivan's RBI single in the ninth tied the game. Ian Stewart led off the bottom of the 10th with a single, moved over to second on a sac bunt, stole third base, and then scored on an Adam Melhuse sac fly.

Jason Hirsh held Fresno to three runs in six innings, walked three, and struck out three. Outside of the two runs Juan Morillo allowed, the other relievers (Alberto Arias, Matt Daley, and Steven Register) kept the game in hand.

Tulsa, L 3-7 - Eric Young, Jr., Tony Blanco, and Eduardo Cornejo each had an RBI last night and combined for five of Tulsa's 10 hits. Corey Wimberly, playing center field, had two hits. Alan Johnson allowed five runs on nine hits (seven went for singles) in 6 2/3 innings, and Jarrett Grube allowed the other two.

Modesto - Suspended due to wet grounds. It will be completed today. The game only went three outs deep, with the first three Modesto Nuts going down in order.

Asheville - Postponed due to rain. Jason McGill has a piece on catcher Lars Davis.

Tri-City, L 5-8 - Four of the six pitchers Tri-City used wound up allowing at least a run. Starter Jonnathan Aristil allowed the first three runs in 3 2/3 innings, Rod Scurry and Brandon Miller allowed two runs each, and Carlos Luna allowed the last run. Bobby Paschal did not allow a run, as he came in to record the final out of the eighth inning. That came on a successful pickoff. Austin Chambliss pitched the ninth and didn't allow Everett to increase its lead.

Charlie Blackmon had another 3-for-5 night with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Jhaysson Agustin and Leonardo Reyes each had an RBI double. Ryan Peisel collected the first two hits of his pro career, both singles.

Casper, L 4-10 - That six-run fourth inning was a killer for Ethan Hollingsworth. Two doubles, a few singles and walks, and a two-run homer came in that inning. He allowed a total of seven runs. Alan Deratt allowed one hit and walked three batters in his 1 2/3 innings, but no runs scored. Andres Marrero was charged with three runs, but  two scored after Juan Rodriguez relieved him on the mound.

Wilin Rosario had three hits and an RBI and Kane Simmons had a hit and two RBI.

Colorado Springs, W 10-6 - The Sky Sox win this without hitting a home run. It was a multi-RBI night for several players: Cory Sullivan and Ian Stewart (two hits) drove in two and Jayson Nix (three hits) drove in three. Two of Christian Colonel's hits were doubles. He, Doug Bernier, and Chris Frey each drove in a run. Bernier, Colonel, and Nix drove in four of those runs in the eight inning to break a 6-6 tie.

Valerio De Los Santos allowed five runs over 4 2/3 innings, and Steven Register allowed a run in the top of the 8th to blow the save. He picked up the win after the already-mentioned four-run eighth by the Sky Sox.

Tulsa, L 2-4 - Tony Blanco hit his 17th homer last night and Dexter Fowler had two hits, but, with men on second and third in the bottom of the ninth, Fowler grounded out on the first pitch he saw. Xavier Cedeno allowed one run (on a homer) in five innings. He also struck out five before leaving the game as a result of back spasms. Adam Bright was charged with two runs, but they scored when Ryan Mattheus took his place on the mound. Mattheus allowed one additional run.

Modesto, L 7-10 - Six of Modesto's seven runs came by way of the home run. Daniel Mayora had two, his first two of the season, Michael McKenry had a two-run shot for his ninth, and Jason Van Kooten had one in the ninth for his second. Van Kooten and Anthony Jackson each had three hits. Modesto native Jackson sat down with Brian VanderBeek for this Sunday's interview.

Esmil Rogers allowed 10 runs (five earned) in 3 2/3 innings. Daniel Mayora had two fielding errors during those innings. Brandon Durden allowed one hit and struck out five over the next 4 1/3 innings.

Asheville, W 13-6 - It was a good night for Warren Schaeffer as he went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, and two walks. Kevin Clark hit his 13th homer, a two-run shot (and put a big dent in the hood of his car after hitting hitting a homer during BP). Mike Mitchell and David Christensen drove in two each. Christian stole his 10th base, and Everth Cabrera his 54th.

Sheng-An Kuo allowed a grand slam in the third inning and failed to make it out of that inning. Edgmer Escalona allowed two runs over the next 4 1/3 innings, striking out five. Matt Reynolds struck out four over the final two innings.

Tri-City, W 4-1 - Parker Frazier had a no-hitter going through five innings before allowing a leadoff single to start the sixth. His line for the night: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R/ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP. Ethan Katz allowed a run in the eighth, but Austin Chambliss struck out two on his way to his seventh save in the ninth.

Leonardo Reyes hit a home run in the seventh to give the Dust Devils the lead, and Thomas Field drove in two on a single the next inning. Patrick Rose scored from second earlier in the eighth on a throwing error by the pitcher on Johnny Bowden's sac bunt.

Casper, L 2-13 - Casper hitters combined for four hits. Wilin Rosario, who had one of the hits, walked twice. Marco Duarte allowed seven runs in the first two innings of the game, only two earned. Carlos Martinez and Orlando Sandoval had errors in the five-run first inning. Brandon Walker allowed two unearned runs, Andres Marrero put three across home plate, and Juan Rodriguez allowed the other run.

Colorado Springs, W 13-1 - Christian Colonel went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, a home run, and two RBI. Doug Bernier went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a home run, and two RBI. Edwin Bellorin had three RBI, two on a home run. Sean Barker had a two-run triple as a pinch-hitter for Mark Redman in the sixth. Jonathan Herrera, Seth Smith, and Joe Koshansky picked up one RBI each.

Mark Redman held Fresno scoreless over six innings and allowed only two hits. Juan Morillo pitched hte final 1 2/3 innings, striking out two, and walking none.

Tulsa - Postponed due to wet grounds. Todd Ritchie is now part of the rotation.

Asheville, L 3-8 - Darin Holcomb hits his 10th homer, a solo shot, and scored twice. Everth Cabrera and Cory Riordan both committed two errors last night while David Christensen had one to place the team's total at five. Riordan allowed five runs (one earned) over five innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Tri-City, W 3-1 - After Salem-Kaizer's sac fly in the top of the second, Tri-City answered with a Patrick Rose sac fly and a Scott Robinson run scored on a Thomas Field ground out. In the eighth, Patrick Rose started the inning with a triple and scored two batters later when Leonardo Reyes put down a sac bunt. Reyes wound up on first after a missed catch by the second baseman.

Kenny Durst held Salem-Kaizer to three hits and one run (zero earned) in five innings. He walked four and struck out three. Michael Marbry, Ethan Katz, and Austin Chambliss allowed two hits over the next four innings, both by Marbry. Chambliss picked up his second save.

Casper - Postponed due to rain.

Colorado Springs, W 12-1 - Mark Redman, Josh Newman, and Victor Zambrano combined for a four-hitter. Redman allowed three of the hits and the lone Sacramento run. He struck out seven.

Eight of the runs scored via the home run: Dustan Mohr's solo shot in the fourth, Joe Koshansky's grand slam in the sixth (13), and Doug Bernier's two-run shot in the second and solo shot in the eighth (4). Koshansky added two doubles (22) and another RBI for five on the night.

The Rockies signed independent league York Revolution infielder Kenny Perez, previously of the Red Sox, D'Backs, and White Sox. When the Rockies called yesterday morning, Perez failed to answer the team twice.

Tulsa, W 7-1 - Wow. Alan Johnson struck out 12 batters last night. He also threw seven shutout innings and surrendered only five hits. Tony Blanco went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, and Matt Miller went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Justin Nelson had a triple and an RBI. Corey Wimberly stole his 25th base.

Modesto, W 1-0 - In the top of the first, Daniel Mayora singled. He moved to second after Mike Paulk singled. Victor Ferrante followed those two singles with an RBI single. That was all the runs scored last night.

It was enough as Aneury Rodriguez threw his second nine-inning complete game shutout of the season. It was two-hitter (two singles) and he struck out 10 batters. He faced only 28 batters and used 103 pitches to do it.

Asheville, W 5-2 - Darin Holcomb went 3-for-5 with two double (23) and three RBI. Mike Mitchell also had three hits and an RBI. Lars Davis hit his first triple, and Everth Cabrera stole two bases (40). Cory Riordan allowed ten hits in six inning but surrendered only two runs. He struck out seven. Craig Baker recorded his second save by striking out three in the ninth.

Seven Tourists were named SAL Southern Division all-stars yesterday: starters Jhoulys Chacin, Everth Cabrera, Darin Holcomb, Brian Rike, Mike Mitchell, and reserves Joey Williamson and Randall Taylor.

Colorado Springs, L 5-13 - After the end of the sixth, the Sky Sox held a 5-4 lead. Josh Towers pitched the first five innings and allowed all four runs. Luis Vizcaino came in for the sixth and things went smoothly for him (after the leadoff triple). Then Chris George came in. He allowed two doubles and two singles to score three runs. Juan Morillo came in the next inning, issued three straight walks, and then recorded his first out. A single scored the first run in the eighth. Landon Powell had a two-run groundout as Doug Bernier committed a throwing error. In the ninth, we saw more of the same as Steven Register allowed three runs, all unearned. On back-to-back plays, Eduardo Cornejo and Joe Koshansky committed errors. The first run scored on Koshansky's error, and the other two scored on a ground out and a single.

Joe Koshansky went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a two-run homer (12). Christian Colonel had two hits, one for a double.

Tulsa, L 8-9 - Losing 4-7 entering the top of the sixth, the Drillers scored a run in each inning. Unfortunately, two runs in the bottom of the sixth gave the Rockhounds enough room to win the game. Matt Miller and Jeff Kindel both had two hits and two RBI, and Jeff Dragicevich had a solo home run for his eighth of the season (and three fielding errors). Corey Wimberly and Dexter Fowler each had two hits as well. Wimberly also added two stolen bases for 23 on the season.

Xavier Cedeno allowed nine runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks. He struck out six. Jon George and Darren Clarke held opposing batters to three hits and no runs over the final 2 2/3 innings.

Modesto, L 1-5 - Anthony Jackson had a double to leadoff the game and eventually scored on a Mike Paulk sac fly. Nick Haley had two hits and Jay Cox had one. Modesto had only those four hits. Jackson (15), Cox (1), and Haley (6) each stole a base.

Esmil Rogers pitched valiantly for seven inning, allowing only one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Will Harris came in for the eighth and allowed a two-run homer, an RBI single, and a RBI double to lose the game.

Asheville, W 6-4 - Helder Velazquez went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, and two stolen bases (6). The game also saw Everth Cabrera hit a triple, score on a Mike Mitchell sac fly, and steal a base (36). Mike Mitchell also stole two bases (21). Brian Rike played and went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and three strikeouts.

Sheng-An Kuo liked the number six tonight. He picked up his sixth winning after pitching six innings. He allowed two runs on six hits, and walked two and struck out six. Craig Baker struck out three in the eighth before Randall Taylor struck out three to pick up his 18th save.

Colorado Springs, W 10-9 - The Sky Sox won this game after Roy Corcoran hit Sean Barker with the bases loaded. Jayson Nix scored the winning run. The Sky Sox were actually entered the inning with eight runs, but a Chris Frey triple and a Christian Colonel RBI single to score Frey tied the game. In the third inning, Doug Bernier had an RBI triple, Frey had an RBI single, and Jayson Nix followed those two with an RBI double. In the eighth, Colonel doubled in Frey and Nix, Edwin Bellorin singled in Colonel and Joe Koshansky, and Rick Guarno had a sac fly.

Josh Towers went six innings, allowed six runs on 13 hits, and struck out five. Steven Register picked up his third win after allowing the go-ahead run at the time in the top of the ninth.

Tulsa, L 6-17 - Matt Miller (6) and Jeff Dragicevich (7) each had a homer, and Daniel Carte and Justin Nelson drove in two runs each.

Tomas Santiago allowed five runs in 3 1/3 IP; Jonathan George saw five runs cross the plate in 1 2/3 IP; and Luis Gonazlez witnessed six men cross the plate in 1 1/3 IP (he also walked four). Two of Gonzalez's runs crossed home when Casey Weathers came in. Weathers allowed those two runs to score and was charged with one run for himself in 2/3 IP. He struck out two. Duke Sardinha, a first baseman, pitched the last inning, allowing only a hit. Of the 17 runs scored, 10 of them were driven in by Midland's Tommy Everidge on two three-run homers and a grand slam. "Power of the mustache," former Rockies' farmhand Joe Gaetti says.

Santiago and manager Stu Cole were ejected in the fourth inning. Santiago hit a batter and then threw a pitch over the head of the next batter, being ejected for that. Cole was tossed right after that.

Modesto, L 0-4 - Victor Ferrante hit his eighth double and Geoff Strickland stole his 14th base. The Nuts managed only six hits.

After a two singles and a sac fly in the first, Esmil Rogers shutdown the Visalia Oaks between the second and seventh innings. He didn't allow a hit or any base runners. In the eighth he allowed a leadoff double, that runner scoring on a homer two batters later. A second double scored the third run of the inning. Rogers went 7 2/3 innings, allowed four runs on six hits, and struck out four.

Asheville, W 9-5 - Jhoulys Chacin put in another great performance: 8 IP, 7 H, 2/1 R/ER, 1 BB, 9 K. Andy Groves started the ninth, allowed three hits and three walks, and saw three men cross home plate. Randall Taylor came in with two outs and the bases loaded to record his 15th save.
