A's place DH Thomas on DL, reinstate P Foulke

Sports Network | August 30, 2008

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics placed designated hitter Frank Thomas on the 15-day disabled list with a lingering right quadriceps injury prior to Saturday's 3-2 win over Minnesota. Thomas was a late scratch prior to the game after feeling discomfort while taking batting practice. The 40-year-old slugger is batting .263 with five home runs and 19 runs batted in over 55 games this season. Thomas was placed on the DL in late July and missed significant time from May 28 to June 30 with tendonitis in the same quadriceps. The A's recalled outfielder Aaron Cunningham from Triple-A Sacramento to take Thomas' roster spot. The team also reinstated pitcher Keith Foulke from the 15-day disabled list and optioned pitcher Dan Meyer to Double-A Midland. Foulke, who is coming off his second DL stint this season, is 0-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 26 games for Oakland this season. Meyer is coming off a rocky outing where the lefty failed to escape the second inning after giving up six runs on four hits and two walks in a 12-2 loss to Minnesota Friday. For the season, Meyer is 0-3 with a 6.88 ERA in eight games (three starts).
