Sheets to take mound for Milwaukee on Saturday

Sports Network | September 26, 2008

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Ben Sheets, hampered by a sore right elbow, will take the mound for the playoff-hopeful Milwaukee Brewers in Saturday's contest against the Chicago Cubs, manager Dale Sveum confirmed Friday.

Sheets has not pitched since a brief two-inning stint against the Cubs on September 17, as he exited early with an ailing elbow.

The 30-year-old will look to keep the Brewers' playoff hopes alive by taking his 13-8 record and 2.98 earned-run average to the mound against the NL Central champion Cubs.

Milwaukee entered Friday's final three-game series tied with the New York Mets in the NL wild card race, and the team confirmed Friday that CC Sabathia will once again pitch on three-days rest on Sunday if the Brewers are still alive for a postseason appearance.

It will be Sabathia's third straight start going on short rest, as the burly left-hander has carried Milwaukee to a 10-2 record in 16 starts with the club.

Both Sheets and Sabathia are free agents following the 2008 campaign.
