Blue Jays' president, CEO to step down

Sports Network | September 29, 2008

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Paul Godfrey, the president and chief executive of the Toronto Blue Jays and Rodgers Centre, will step down from his duties at the conclusion of the 2008 calendar year.

"I have decided not to seek a new contract as president and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre once my existing one ends on December 31, 2008," Godfrey said. "I indicated this possibility to the ownership of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball club earlier this year."

Godfrey took over his positions on September 1, 2000 after Rogers Communications purchased the club.

"I would like to thank Ted Rogers for the opportunity to fulfill every sports fan's dream of running a major league franchise," added Godfrey.

Toronto finished the 2008 campaign in fourth place in the vaunted American League East Division with an 86-76 record, 11 games behind the division- champion Tampa Bay Rays.
