Recap: Boston vs. Tampa Bay
Sports Network | October 16, 2008
Boston, MA (Sports Network) - J.D. Drew hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning and the game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning, and the Boston Red Sox staved off elimination by erasing a seven-run deficit with a miraculous 8-7 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.
David Ortiz belted a three-run home run for the Red Sox, who scored eight times in the last three innings to send the series back to St. Petersburg. The Rays still lead the series 3-2, but they can't feel too confident after being on the wrong side of the biggest comeback in ALCS history and the biggest in Red Sox postseason history.
Game 6 is set for Saturday night, with Boston's Josh Beckett facing Tampa Bay righty James Shields.
