Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox announced on Saturday that they have signed a new agreement, previously approved by Lee County, Florida, which will result in a new spring training complex for the team.
The move means that the Sox will keep their pre-season home in Fort Myers for at least the next 30 years. The club has trained at the City of Palms Park since 1992.
"The Red Sox thank the leadership and citizens of Lee County for this extraordinary commitment," said team chief operating officer Mike Dee. "We recognize the significance of today's announcement and are thrilled Red Sox Nation will continue to call Lee County our spring training home for many years to come."
Plans are in motion to design and construct the new facility in time for the 2012 season.
