Phils re-sign veteran P Eyre

Sports Network | November 10, 2008

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies re-signed veteran reliever Scott Eyre to a one-year, $2 million contract extension on Monday.

The left-handed Eyre, 36, was acquired from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor league pitcher Brian Schlitter on August 7. In 19 regular-season appearances with the club, he went 3-0 with a 1.88 earned run average and 18 strikeouts. He made five appearances in the postseason for the World Series champion Phillies, logging three innings of work and pitching to a 3.00 ERA.

Originally selected by Texas in the ninth round of the 1991 draft, Eyre is 26-29 with four saves and a 4.36 ERA in 575 career games (32 starts) for the White Sox (1997-2000), Blue Jays (2001-02), Giants (2002-05), Cubs (2006-08) and Phillies.
