Royals sign P Duckworth to one-year deal

Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals signed pitcher Brandon Duckworth to a 2009 Major League contract on Monday and proceeded to outright him to Triple-A Omaha.
The 32-year-old Duckworth made just seven big league starts last season, going 3-3 with a 4.50 earned-run average with Kansas City.
It was his third season with the Royals and eighth of his career. The right- hander has compiled a 23-34 record with a 5.28 ERA in 134 appearances -- 84 starts -- with the Phillies, Astros and Royals.
