Monday Pebble Report

Colorado Springs: Jeff Salazar ht his first homerun of the season, a three run shot in the fifth, and he liked it so well he hit out another three-run bomb in the eighth. I really hope this doesn't go to his head becasue in his minor league past, he'd get pull happy and try to drive the ball out when that doesn't really fit his game. Behind Salazar's six RBI, the Sky Sox wound up winning eleven to four. Through eighty AB's Jeff is really looking solid, we're heading into an interesting conundrum as far as our immediate future in centerfield is concerned.

Tulsa: Ubaldo Jimenez looked like he's more than ready for the coming promotion to AAA, yesterday. In five innings of work U-ball struck out ten, walked three and just allowed one single to Midland. Christian Colonel followed a pair of singles by Joe Gaettis and Joe Koshansky with a three run blast that provided the Drillers all the scoring they would get or need.

Modesto: The Nuts are breaking for their All-Star Game.

Asheville:

Tri-City: Since it is a level above Casper, we're obviously going to watch fifteenth round pick Victor Ferrante's progress. He had two hits yesterday, a homerun in the second, and an RBI single in the eighth that drove in the winning run. Aneury Rodriguez pitched a solid six innings, allowing only four hits and two unearned runs. He walked one and struck out four.

Casper: Casper was blown out of the game early as Ronny Lopez gave up ten runs before being pulled with one out into the second. Afterwards, the relief crew did a serviceable job of holding Orem in check but the final score wound up being thirteen to three. Most notable of the offensive contributions was David Christensen's three for four night, he finished a homerun away from the cycle and scored twice. Helder Velazquez and Hector Gomez also had a pair of hits each, as did veteran DH, Steven Suarez. catcher Austin Rauch got his first professional hit. Ignore the eighteen year old's .071 average until he gets his feet wet.

I was looking for a YouTube video of the Mikulik
tirade, if anybody finds one, let me know. I know there's some way to post them here.

When I saw
ESPNews showing a small clip of it when the new hour started (around 11 last night), I didn't notice it was the Tourists' uniform. Didn't find out it was Mikulik until I checked my RSS feed of the Rockies official site.

Ian Stewart meet your father in law...
I'd be careful to pass the gravy when asked if I was Ian.

for what it's worth...

I guess Shealy is injured and will have to 'prove he is healthy' at AAA before getting called up.

Don't you just hate
the false bravado of these "throwback" managers?  He's your best major league ready player not in Colorado, period.  A better hitter than all but maybe four current Rockies.  Play him.

but he's hurt.......
and hasn't played in 3 days.

Considering the current roster makeup.....you options to send down (to make room for Shealy) are:

Omar Quintanilla?  No chance......your only backup infielder.

Spilborghs?  He's completely taken over the 4th outfield spot.  He doesn't deserve to be sent down.

Ok...so its down to two options (pending a DL trip for someone like Sully)

Jorge Piedra?  Last year's pinch hitter has just recently been called up.  Without Shealy in AAA, he's a perfectly acceptable DH for this team.  Many people like his bat enough to want to see him starting everyday in CF.  Based on last year's results, he's our best bat off the bench.

and last but not least.....

Choo Freeman?  I'm one that is in favor of giving the guy a shot at starting for 2 weeks before DFA him and giving up forever.  Especially considering his recent results, I'm not in favor of giving up on him yet....Especially not for a guy that will only DH on the team for 1 week.

The only possible solution is to option Spilborghs to AAA for a week while Shealy DH's 4-6 games this next week.  If Shealy hasn't played in 3 games and may or may not be able to play as early as tonight.....why make this move until Shealy proves he's healthy?

That just makes sense.....besides, I'm happy with seeing Piedra get 4-5 starts at DH this week.

I'd like to nominate.....
Mikulik for employee of the month.  That was quite an impressive show.

I think that's a good idea...
I'm glad Employee of the Month Parking isn't cursed like the Sports Illustrated cover. U-ball and Jamey C both did pretty well with it.
