Game #132: Fogg vs Williams

This game could be one of the most significant turning points in the Colorado Rockies' franchise history. A moment we should mark down in our scrapbooks as the day the Rockies stepped tremulously into an uncertain future of blurry promise. Yes, I'm talking about the official end of the Danny Ardoin era.

Joking. Obviously we're going to be glued to this game for the debut of Tulo, but also game number two for Chris Iannetta, two young players who we'll admit have an inordinate amount of our hopes for the future of the franchise riding on their shoulders. U-ball better get here quick to lighten the load. The last time a prominent Rockies prospect made his debut against the Mets, he tossed a shutout, hit a homerun and wound up winning a Rookie of the Year award. Let's hope Tulowitzki's turns out about as nice.

Go Rockies!

And somehow in 2002
I forgot that Jennings was eligible for RoY. I lost a bet with a friend on the NL RoY because of that.

Exciting game
Figures, I have to miss this game. :(

First game of the fall softball season is tonight.  I should be able to catch the second half of the game on the radio on the way home though. :)

Troy
starts his career batting seventh, after Torrealba and before the Choo-Choo Train.

No Iannetta, grumble grumble,
Tulo bats seventh, and oddly Spillborghs is in the fifth slot in the lineup.

by Rox Girl on Aug 30, 2006 6:21 PM MDT reply actions

As emotional as Hurdle seemed yesterday,
why "reward" Torrealba with a start today when he was the major culprit in his failure to drive in runners yesterday (six LOB I believe).  Especially with Iannetta around, but it sounds like Hurdle has made a playing time schedule for these two, so I won't complain about this too mch.

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 6:57 PM MDT up reply actions

I'll complain about it...
what's the schedule--Iannetta plays once a week?

by DenverBears on Aug 31, 2006 5:17 AM MDT up reply actions

Chance of Spilborghs repeating
Hawpe's miscues in RF tonight? I put in right around 5%.

I love throwing numbers out of nowhere like the guys on PTI do.

Chances we escape this inning without
surrendering a run?  How about 17.6%

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 7:12 PM MDT reply actions

Make it 0%
Okay, the gig is up, Fogg had us fooled...

Now I don't ever want to see him start another game here again...

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 7:14 PM MDT up reply actions

Uh, uh
Somebody get the crash cart! The team's flat-lined already.
Russ

by Russ Oates on Aug 30, 2006 7:13 PM MDT reply actions

When Hurdle goes to get Fogg
he better give him the exact cab fare to get him to the DIA.

It would be great if he made Fogg give him his cap and jersey top right there too...

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 7:16 PM MDT reply actions

Alright, so Tulo just has a little more work to
do to bring this team into contention than we thought. It's okay, though no problem, right Troy? Five runs in the first is no sweat, right?

Yes it is
The team is sophmoric

Man...
I'm in NY for school, chilling in my dorm, and I would love love LOVE to be at the game tonight. My entire family is there (so if you see them in section 206, give them a shoutout, lol) and despite the fact that I'm so happy to be where I am, I would kill to be at that game with them. :(

On happier news, I made it onto my college's softball team. :-D That is going to be a hell of a lot of fun.

Go Rockies! It may be a formality at this point, but hell! The boys in purple and black are still mine!

Congratulations on making the team!
Now if only we could get something to cheer about this game.

by Rox Girl on Aug 30, 2006 7:28 PM MDT up reply actions

So how close to ready is U-ball?
I'm with OhNo, we need more than just offensive help right now. Maybe it's time for a return of Sunny.

by Rox Girl on Aug 30, 2006 7:27 PM MDT reply actions

Bautista and Kim
should come up to pitch in the four and five spots, possibly Hampson in a spot start or two as well.  I think Jimenez should be shut down at season's end.

Josh Fogg
is bad.

In related news, the sun came up in the east this morning.

I know....
It's been raining like someone switched the tap on and forgot to turn it off. (I'm in Bronxville). Where are you?

This is rapidly getting annoying.
But I'd still really like to be there.

Welcome to the bigs, Tulo
Now I can turn off this godawful game.

doh! Caught looking.
Well, it's some trivia to remember at least.

by Rox Girl on Aug 30, 2006 7:44 PM MDT reply actions

I had to step out for an inning
but from the gameday, it looks like it was a borderline pitch called a strike.  Is this the case, was it a rookie call?

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 7:58 PM MDT up reply actions

Okay
the gameday put it right on the border, but I've noticed that calls against the home team are generally put in the black on that thing.

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 8:16 PM MDT up reply actions

The SNY camera
showed Dan O'Dowd right before Tulo's AB and he was shaking his head. Might have said "I don't know" while doing it.
Russ

by Russ Oates on Aug 30, 2006 7:46 PM MDT reply actions

Hmm
maybe his next move should be to call up the entire Tulsa roster...

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 7:58 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm really curious...
If you've been in NY your whole life, how did you get into the Rox?

Mets players to Rockies players,
"Humidor?! It's not the humidor's fault, you guys just suck at hitting!"

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 7:55 PM MDT reply actions

10-0
Comedy. Just pure comedy. Either our pitchers are really, really bad, or the Mets are really, really good.

Maybe we should note what this series has done for
the site since yesterday:

That's the most traffic since the trade deadline!

Mets fans reading the site?
There's also been an increase in overall posting lately, and oddly, it's pretty much been everybody agreeing with each other.  Losing badly really brings this board together!

by David "ohno" on Aug 30, 2006 8:01 PM MDT up reply actions

Not any more
than we usually get (opposing team's fans), but Troy Tulowitzki pops up a few times in searches based on the referrals.

by Russ Oates on Aug 30, 2006 8:07 PM MDT up reply actions

hmm...
well there are a good amount of posts on the Mets site, but not so many so I don't think that the Mets fans are checking the site. I think that there are just more people blogging here now such as SilverBlood and PhycoChicken.

Jamey Carroll
Now that Jamey Carroll has had his average dip below .300 does anybody feel diferent on what the Rockies should do with him? I wouldn't say get rid of him, but have him in the same role that he was in in Washington.

play at the warning track tonight.  Save his legs...

Probably
should also start throwing footballs. Freeman will get them all.

The Rockies currently hold the 7th draft position.

At least this draft is starting to shape up nicely with the high school class and high impact college guys.

Troy Tulowitzki makes ESPN's Web Gems
it may not have been the best night for him at the plate, but he made the Baseball Tonight highlight reel with his jumping turn-and-throw deep in the hole.
