I am
extremely unhappy right now... not how I wanted to see us come out in our first postseason. The losing stings, but the smugness is going to sting worse...

"See, the Rockies are a fluke! Can't compete with the big boys! No chance!".... ugh.

In 1960 the Yankees blew out the Pirates in three games, but unfortunately they needed to win four. They didn't and Bill Mazeroski's homerun won the Series for Pittsburgh. You don't get style points for a blowout.

Exerpt from the Boston Herald...
I think you guys have the wrong idea about MOST Sox fans (and yes, there are the idiots). See this excerpt from today's Boston Herald.

There was an unusual moment Sunday night in Fenway. The Indians were slouching off the field after the bottom of their calamitous 8th inning, one which saw the game go from a 5-2 sweat-inducing grind to an 11-2 slaughter. Some slob in the grandstand above third base stood up and hollered, "Cleveland sucks!"

If he had yelled it about the Yankees, he would have ignited a chant. As it was, not a single one of the hundreds of fans who undoubtedly heard him uttered a word of agreement, and the guy simply sat down.

Instead, people were gazing at the morose Cleveland players walking toward the dugout as if they were each lugging a cross.
Some fans surely thought about the tens of thousands of spectators waving their silly little towels at Jacobs Field a few nights before, every one of them so full of hope.

That used to be us. The looks on their players' faces used to be the looks on ours.

No need to mock what we know better than anyone else.

Boston never waves a white flag.

by galacticpilot on Oct 24, 2007 10:02 PM MDT reply actions

And then
the Red Sox realized they had enough money to buy as many players as needed...even to the point of paying $50 million dollars just for the right to "talk" to a player...more then (or very close to) the entire year's payroll of several major league teams including Cleveland, and Colorado.

just curious
If patronizing is the problem, what did you think of the Sox players that make the league minimum: Youkilis, Pedroia, and Ellsbury?

And out of curiosity, how does one team afford to pay all those high priced free agents? Could it be from fan financial support from all those fans that go to the "band box" that is Fenway Park? Since Coors has more seats than Fenway, dont you believe it possible for the Rox to garner the same level of support?

Or are there just not enough Rockie's fans out there?

by Ickimore on Oct 25, 2007 3:35 AM MDT up reply actions

Wrong 'patronizing'.
When the national media broadcasts every single game your team plays, and dotes on your team as much as they dote on the freaking Red Sox and Yankees, you're bound to have a million or so more fans than, say, the Rockies, whom half the sportswriters had never heard of until a week ago. It stands to reason as well that when your team's been around for over 90 years longer than some other teams, the older team will probably have more fans. Fans = $$$.

Here are my thoughts
This is a really humiliating performance.  Rough for us fans.  Even rougher for the team.
This can't be blamed on the umps, the weather, the layoff, or anything.  No excuses, the Rockies got their butts whipped.

The Red Sox were better tonight.  Much much much better.  The media will be right to question the Rockies and whether they're World Series quality.  Bias or not, the Rockies gave them no reason to question their assumptions.

The Rockies now get to decide whether they're happy to be here or if they actually want to win.  Few would blame them for rolling over.  They're in the JV circuit after all.  Heck, even I (fairweather fan) would applaud their season if they lost all four games by increasingly awful scores.  Sometimes you just get beat by a better team.  Sometimes you get beat four times in a row by an equal or lesser team - it's the nature of baseball.  The Rockies did get swept by the Royals, after all.

But something tells me we're not going to let this continue.

...WHAT A SECOND!  Why are that yuppie from Philly's friends in Chicago carrying a sign that says "Go Bobcats"???

Ok
The only game I saw at Coors this year was that game that Ubaldo got crushed by the Cubs. I had had about 3 beers and he was gone. I also was at that game in April at Shea where Fuentes gave up a HR to Damon frickin Easley to blow a save. Those were both bad losses.

Howevaah, I was also at game 2 in Philly where Ka came through with the most ridiculously clutch hit of the postseason. And they looked bad in that game during the first couple of innings. But they are a resilient bunch. And I'd much rather lose to Boston in this fashion than some heartbreaker 2-1 to Beckett.

No worries, we have our secret weapon going tommorow. And maybe tix to game three will be cheaper on stubhub tommorow morning.

Wow, fiction...
My three teachers are spectacular, and, like I say, I like the undergraduates.  As for my fellow graduate writers -- the jury is still out.

The campus is beautiful, but as for the area around the campus, let's just say I'm glad we decided to live in Brooklyn.

I'm going to sleep now, but it's good to know that the Rockies are represented at our school by someone other than myself. I wore an otherwise inconspicuous purple t-shirt to class today.  I was hyper-aware of people wearing Rockies colors when I was out today, and I saw a few on my commute, but I saw none on campus.

I did see signs on campus about a World Series watching party, and I thought momentarily of attending, but I was looking forward to watching at home with my wife.

My belief...
is that the Rockies will be ready to fight tommorrow. This team is fired up and ready to win. Boston and their media groupies are on cloud 9 right now, but they will be brought back to reality. This was only one game. There are 6 more (if needed) to win this game. It's not like Boston has never been clobbered or that every team in baseball hasn't had a game just like this. Boston isn't familiar with U-ball and his talents. They will just underestimate him, I am guessing, and some things will go our way. Rest well fellow Rocks fans, game 2 will be different! Our boys have played all year with the media telling them they can't do things and they have...is this different? Rockies stuff has always been dramatic, so I am expecting no difference here. Have faith!

Well, that was interesting
Long time lurker, first time commenter...

So, hi. I'm guessing everyone's in bed right now trying to forget tonight happened and dreaming about a better game tomorrow, but I finally decided to delurk and register. As a quick intro, I grew up in the Denver area, now live in the SF Bay area (go by AT&T Park every day, am glad the Giants stink so I don't have to hear about them).

During the NLCS and tonight I hung out over in the ESPN.com game conversations, and as much as I enjoy the back and forth with opposing fans and other neutral fans, I decided I needed a haven with mostly fellow Rox fans, especially after tonight, so I might hang out here more tomorrow night. Plus, there are way more Sox fans than Dbacks fans and it was hard to keep up tonight.

Anyway, long-winded introduction over, I'm looking forward to tomorrow, despite what happened tonight. It was painful, it was embarrassing, but tomorrow is a new day and a new game.

Dear Rockies
Please Win, for the love of God. Don't be intimidated. The Red Sox act like they're hot shit, especially at home, but if you can steal one at Fenway they can be taken. Their offense can turn to garbage at any moment and their outfield defense (well, Manny at least, -40 UZR) will make Coors an adventure and a half.

The entire baseball world is counting on you to save us from an entire offseason of sanctimonious douchebaggery.
