Dodger Fans Try to Doctor Vote for Best Rockies Blog

Well, at least we know which Rockies blog our opponents like best. A few hours ago Purple Row was sitting comfortably in the lead of SI's poll, and then Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts, perhaps the most read Dodger blog out there, stumped for Bad Altitude. Then, the Cubs writer at Baseball Toaster linked to Weisman's post as well, and it's been downhill since.

Will you let these army of blue guys overrun the Rockies poll like they overrun Coors Field? Has it come to the point that the big markets buy your affection away as well? A vote for Purple Row is a vote for you, my fellow Rockies fans, just remember that.

Apparently I really want this tiara now more than I thought. :)

Leave it to Dodger fans
to vote for the most pessimistic Rockies blog out there.  I mean, I like Mark's writing style and all... but does he ever actually like anything the Rockies do?

Maybe I'm just jealous because my blog was left off the ballot in favor of one that hasn't been updated since December (and isn't really a blog, now that I think about it.)  Or maybe, SI has a copy of their subscriber list and doesn't see my name on it, so they leave me off.  Yeah, that's gotta be it.  Anyways, I now know one sports magazine that I will never be subscribing to again.

I mean seriously:
This account of attending a game at Coors Field and catching a homerun comes from Mark's own keyboard from his former Rockies blog:
I wish I could say I made an impressive leaping grab or something, but the fact was, I didn't even see the ball being hit. After devouring one of those great Coors Field ultimate nacho platters (seven bucks and worth every penny, extra sour cream, please) I was more concerned with a cheese stain on my Ron Santo jersey than Jeromy Burnitz at the plate.

Now, you could correct me if I'm mistaken here, but to the best of my knowledge, Ron Santo never wore a Rockies jersey. No. Ron Santo wore Cubs jerseys. CUBS JERSEY. AT OUR TEMPLE. I'm sorry, but good writer yes, but that is not a Rockies fan.

putting 2 and 2 together
he's probably so negative because he's a cubs fan.  makes a lot of sense.  i went to college in the chicago area so i got to know a lot about the cubs and their fans.  they really only have 3 moods- disappointed, drunk, and hopeful.  and hopeful only happens between january and march.
Rockies in October.

Yes
I remember seeing that on TV, seeing what looked like Mark (considering he had a picture on his blog)... and then thinking to myself, why is the guy wearing a Cubs jersey?

It would be a shame
if Purple Row didn't win.

Only 22% of the vote?!? It must be a joke.

by avsfan4ever33 on Mar 26, 2007 6:58 AM MDT   0 recs

It's at 28% now.
I just completed my civic duty.  I will do more ballot stuffing tonight when I get home from work.

by Prospector on Mar 26, 2007 8:44 AM MDT   0 recs

Woohoo!
We've gained about 12% since I first saw the shellacking we were taking this morning. Thanks everybody!

Not to be a Hater on the Hater
but Mark isn't a Rockies fan.  To be a fan you have to like the Rockies or some aspect of them either past, present or future, by definition.

I can see why Dodger fans would like his page.

by Redhawk on Mar 26, 2007 9:10 AM MDT   0 recs

I think by this definition Mark would qualify
because I'm pretty sure he likes "some aspect" of the Rockies. I do read most of his posts, and he's generally in favor of our sluggers like Atkins and Holliday and Hawpe for instance, and he's at least a little excited by Tulo and Iannetta, but I don't know if that will keep him from wearing Cubs jerseys to the games this season.

I went to several Marlins games last year
cause of work in Miami.  I liked their young players. Dontrelle Willis vs. Roy Oswalt was a real treat.  Hanely Rameriz is fun to watch.  Cabrerra is a star.

But I don't count myself as a Marlins fan. (and I wore a Rockies hat).

Dear Rox Girl...
I happen to sit at work, surrounded by ten different computers, all able to vote for Purple Row at least once.

I'm with you all the way.  This was the only blog that went through the trouble of updating throughout the long winter.  It then became a daily routine for me, so I'm proudly stuffing the ballot box for you.

stuff that box
Atta boy Matt. I'm doing much the same at home using different screen names.  At last look, Bad Altitude's lead had narrowed to 53% vs. 40% for the Row.

by DeepPurple on Mar 26, 2007 12:21 PM MDT   0 recs

I think if you just click back
it will refresh and allow you to vote again.  I did that like 10 times this morning before starting to feel guilty and getting back to my day job.

You guys are amazing! Purple Row has caught the behemoth!

The Row is rollin!

Can we request the support
of fellow SBN sites of the MLB ilk?  It seems like it was okay for Baseball Toaster, it would be nice if we could gain support from some of the larger blogs, like Bleed Cubbie Blue or Athletics Nation

Russ, rox girl, do you know their writers well enough?

by David OhNo on Mar 26, 2007 1:09 PM MDT   0 recs

We could
but even Blez hasn't been able to get the collective might of AN's community to lead the vote for his site.

I'm planning a piece for Saturday about the community here at the Row. I've chosen Saturday because it marks a one-year anniversary of sorts.

And now the vote is 2% in our favor.

by Russ on Mar 26, 2007 1:54 PM MDT to parent up   0 recs

just voted...
and purple row is up by 2% 48-46...

Another Surge for Bad Altitude
As Mark writes a very moving speech and brings up a sore point for me. There's a great gulf of land that indeed separates me from my Rockies. Immediately after writing this, another Dodgers fan casts his vote in Bad Altitude's favor. That said, now is not the time for relaxing on the ballot box stuffing, we've taken the lead before, and we'll take it again!

by Rox Girl on Mar 26, 2007 4:12 PM MDT   0 recs

I'll be home from work by 6
When does the balloting close?

by Prospector on Mar 26, 2007 4:41 PM MDT   0 recs

It's been up all weekend, I'm assuming it will
remain up for at least another couple of days. You can vote multiple times but sometimes the cache doesn't update.
