Around SBN: The Ten Worst Swings Of The 2011 Season

Game #142: Chris Young vs. Josh Fogg

Biggest game of the season, biggest game of the century. You can go with either one.

Young's allowed one run in three starts against the Rockies this season, though his second start lasted only two innings due to injury. Josh Fogg allowed 10 runs in two April starts against the Padres and hasn't faced them since. Fogg's done well in his last two starts; let's hope he can add another quality outing.

Go Rockies!

Anybody home?
The middle of the order gets 3 runs after two outs and no one's here?

Did you guys make the mistake of watching the Broncos instead?

Whoo Hoo
nice start.  What kills me is Josh Fogg as done so well of late, we won't be able to afford him.  And he's not that good

otherwise I think Matt would have been thown out.  Before the F bomb he told the ump it was a foot outside...

Veteran Ump
Reed took a LOT of abuse from Holliday.

Perhaps more than he should have but definitely way more than he was required to take.

9 times out of 10 the player is gone when he shows up an ump like that.

by Silverblood on Sep 9, 2007 3:55 PM MDT reply actions

Okay, on to the Phils.
What do you guys think, can we survive with just a split, or do we need to win three of four while we're there? The way certain teams have been heating up this month, including the Dodgers and D-backs and the Phillies themselves, I don't know if just two will be enough to cut it.

by Rox Girl on Sep 9, 2007 3:57 PM MDT reply actions

Before this series started,
I thought the Rockies would need five of the next seven to stay in the hunt. I'll agree that the Rox need at least three against the Phillies.
"Don't give up the ship!" - Capt. James Lawrence

by Russ Oates on Sep 9, 2007 3:59 PM MDT up reply actions

Considering Philly's remaining schedule
they have to win three.  They seemed to have the easiest path, so putting any distance on them is a must.

Overcoming an undesirable outcome,
the Rockies won their biggest game of the season. Woo!?

4-2
Just what you'd expect from a September afternoon Coors Field game...

Anyways, it's nice to see the team win despite not putting up the best performances.  The Rockies took every opportunity given and slammed the door on opportunities allowed.

by David OhNo on Sep 9, 2007 3:58 PM MDT reply actions

Yay!
Winning the must win provides another must win game tomorrow. The Rox have to take 3 of 4 from Philly now...I don't think a split is going to cut it.

by Squeaky on Sep 9, 2007 4:29 PM MDT reply actions

That was a bad loss
you'd have to think that opening the eighth inning with Penny still on the hill with a run lead against a woeful team like San Francisco would be a recipe for victory.  But a bullpen dashes those hopes.

by David OhNo on Sep 9, 2007 4:48 PM MDT up reply actions

On a related noted
I opened Gameday to see how Arizona was doing today (we can still see them on the horizon) and noticed that St. Louis is basically Pujols and the Memphis Redbirds.  How is this team potentially two games out in the Central?

by David OhNo on Sep 9, 2007 4:54 PM MDT up reply actions

Tony La Russa magic.
That's really the only explanation.  Outside of Pujols they have nobody.  They DO play in the Central, though, and they've got a 36-26 record against their division -- I think there's a lot of beating up on the Pirates, Reds, and Astros going on there.
The Coors Effect... thinking about changing the name to The Humidor Effect.

by Rox Fan in TN on Sep 9, 2007 5:22 PM MDT up reply actions

Think Blue Week
Despite the bad loss today, I think we've got to be rooting for the Dodgers this week at home against the Pods and Snakes, since we have seven games left against LA, but only one series apiece against the other two. If Los Angeles can cut their lead down, we will be much more in control of our own destiny down the stretch.

by Rox Girl on Sep 9, 2007 5:00 PM MDT up reply actions

Snakes win the division
Give them the division... and hope they beat up on the Dodgers six more times and lose to us, of course, the last 3 games. Their other games are against the lowly Pirates and Giants.

We'll just have to grab that wild card somehow.
