Hall of Fame Tuesday

The Hall of Fame announcement(s) will be made at 2 PM ET. Results.

Troy E. Renck checks in with an an article on the team's arbitration-eligible players. Garrett Atkins and Matt Holliday should see the most substantial increase in their salary for 2008, while Fuentes might receive money in line with other closers from the past. No mention of how much Hawpe could receive, but after having made the near minimum, another zero should be tacked on (though the number in front of the zeros won't be a 4, as the article suggests it could be for Atkins).

All Right
Who the hell voted for Todd Stottlemyre? Seriously they need to loose their voting privileges.

The same yutz who...
voted Knaublauch.

I'm happy for Goose but Lee Smith deserves a big plaque as does Jim Rice.  I'm of two minds on Dawson.

The Hawk
Well,I like Dale Murphy over either Rice or Dawson. but especially over the Hawk.  If I had a vote, I'd vote Murphy, and Rice.

Murphy only got 13% of the vote, and he won back to back MVPs and 4 Silver Slugger Awards...all while playing for a gawd-offal Atlanta Braves team

Goose, awesome
The near-certainty of Rice getting in next year:  not so awesome.  Oh, well.

Dunno about
Smith. Lee Smith likely won't be in the top 5 for saves in a few years. He was never dominant. He was just in the right place at the right time (right as closers were being used).

Well, if Atkins does gets a raise to $4 million
from $400,000, he can finally pick up five out of ten dinners that he has with Holliday, instead of one in ten (from the SI article last year, where he pointed out that if he makes a tenth of what Holliday does, he'll pick up one of every ten dinners). No more shirking on the tab, Garrett.

Blyleven
He must've been a real dick to media.  He should definitely be in.  Eight of his top ten "most similars" on baseballreference.com, including the top three (Sutton, Perry, Fergie Jenkins) made it.  He'd have probably been in a couple years ago if he  stuck around and ground out 13 more wins to get to 300.  That process would have hurt the teams he played for during that season(s), but it's killing him right now.

Perfect example
In 400 fewer IP, Early Wynn has 1400 fewer Ks, 400 more BBs, a higher ERA, and a higher WHIP.  But Early picked up a single win during his final season in 1963, which allowed him to retire with exactly 300.  Therefore, in the eyes of the voters, he's ostensibly the superior pitcher.

so...tough question
with the mitchell report. what are your thoughts about inducting ANYONE associated with hgh or steroids. the times are a coming and was wondering your opinion. also, rose only bet for his team to win and these guys transformed the game.
