Around SBN: The Worst Season of Francisco Rodriguez's Career Bar-right-arrows

Sunday Morning Rockpile:

Apparently, Garrett Atkins' role in the field this season will be to stand there and look pretty while Tulo covers that ground as well as the shortstop's. It's such a funny story that it's shown up in multiple articles this weekend.

As to real happenings, Tulo has high hopes for Jayson Nix winning the second base job, but he also likes Barmes' work ethic. Whether arriving early to get some extra time in the cages or in the field will work for Baker and Barmes, Jayson Nix will definitely feel the pressure early on to establish himself as the man for the job.

OK, OK, which one of you hugged Hurdle at the 16th Street Mall in Denver during the offseason? With the home opener selling out in 30 minutes and season-ticket sales increasing this winter than in previous ones, maybe there should be more spontaneous hugs for Hurdle and the guys. Just don't go jumping on to the field to do it. No one wants the game to be delayed.

In an effort to help his chances to make the team, Josh Towers will attempt to add a split-fingered fastball to his repertoire. As he already throws two different fastballs, maybe the third one will be his lucky charm in pursuit of a rotation spot. Or maybe his 4-1/2-year-old should receive a chance to make the rotation. Can everyone say Rookie of the Year?

You have to wonder, was Tulo born with a bat in his hand?

This is not a joke.

funny thing...
about the article that quotes Tulo about Nix.  Tulo says that Nix is a "good kid", which I find funny since, I believe, Nix is actually the older of the two.

2 Years
Nix is actually two years older than Tulo. However because I played baseball for 17 years, until I graduated from High School, it is very common to call someone on your team, whether older or not, a kid. The exception may be if the player is Franklin Morales (22) talking about Matt Herges (38).

you may be right....
but I would think that calling your fellow player in High School a kid would be much different than calling a 25 year-old a kid when you are 23.  Having said that, I don't really have any idea how that would be taken by ball players.

On another note, Tulo's comment about Atkins standing there hits a little too close to home.  I know they were joking around, but still I wouldn't be surprised if it stung a little.

Marlins
The Marlins need to bring fans in, NOT scare them away. I would go for the baseball but having fat people dance during the game is just worrisome and I would find somewhere else to watch baseball.

Seriously
There's a reason that NFL and NBA teams all have attractive women to do this, not fat guys in belly shirts.

The Marlins do have the
Mermaids, which I think will go over better for some reason than the Manatees.

I'm as much...
of a pig as the next guy but I'm not sure there's a place for this in baseball either.  Cheerleaders?  The fat guy thing is just criminal.  Seriously, Congress ought to be putting a stop to this.

Manatees
...wait, that isn't a joke?  I...I'm speechless...

Tulo

Why dont we put garrett in the OF? We could have a LF, LCF, RCF, and RF. then tulo can have the whole left side of the infield Im sure it would be fine and garrett wont have to stand there. plus we wont have many hits into the power allys to worry about. this could really work out with tulos range. why not?
At least the broncos dont totally suck

Somebody call PETA!!
Fast. Pity the docile and noble manatee, having its good name used for a bad reality TV type gimmick.

That picture made my head hurt.

2007 National League Champions, baby!

I Didn't hug Hurdle
If I saw Hurdle on the 16th St. Mall, I'd quickly point out that having the pitcher bat, then lifting him for a relief pitcher before he throws one pitch...not once but TWICE in a playoff series.......

Is stupid and piss poor planning

I miss Kaz! He really could Rock-a-Rhyme, even if it was Tricky
