Spring Training Game #12

Kip Wells, Luis Vizcaino, Alberto Arias, Josh Newman, and Darren Clarke Juan Morillo (according to KC's announcer) will step on the mound today. The Royals will have Brian Bannister, Kyle Davies, Ron Mahay, Jimmy Gobble and Joel Peralta. Luke Hochevar, a Colorado native, was scheduled to appear, but the Royals had him start a 'B' game this morning.

How about an outcome far more favorable than Tuesday's?

Juan Morillo
Is scheduled to pitch according to the Royals announcer, he didn't mention Clarke, so I guess we have a bit of a mystery as to who it will actually be come the end of the game.

First round of cuts
According to Renck, the first few cuts should be made today after the game.

With minor league camp getting under way, I'm guessing guys like Rogers, Nelson, Hynick and Strop will be on the list.

It's the Royals?
I'm.... not gonna watch. Ay yi yi.

Brad!!!
He's hit another HR, it really sounded like a monster according to the announcers. 3-1 Rox!

Woo-hoo Brandon!
Nice one!

Ugh...
I really don't like how many walks and HBP's Wells has allowed this Spring. Like we were discussing yesterday, hits I can deal with, because it means the pitcher's almost ready. All this wildness says to me that Kip's not really close to being ready to help the team.

by Rox Girl on Mar 7, 2008 2:03 PM MST reply actions

Well, I must note
that I (sure hope) we weren't signing Wells with the intent to be a primary contributor. We knew he had a  garbage season last year and we were hoping that he could resuscitate it enough to be a viable fill-in if Morales couldn't go. Morales for now looks fine, but what with Hirsh and Cook having worrisome shoulder twinges, we're seeing that Wells is, clearly, not good enough for full-time duty.

And with an RBI groundout
Whoosh, the lead is gone. Of all our backup options, I like Wells the least. Although I don't really trust any of them. Please get better, Aaron and Jason.

These announcers are funny.
There's no 50 home run hitter in the Royals' lineup or 75 stolen base guy.

They are doomed...
Certain recipe for disaster that. Everybody in the playoffs has at least two of each, right?

Good Day
I am out of class and that means Spring Break just started. Headed to Tucson Sunday for 5 days of Rockies ST. Great way to get away from school.

2 straight HBPs
Barmes and Nix. Sadly, that's probably the only way Jayson has gotten on this spring.

I feel I must say
that this lineup is pretty much made of fail with a few exceptions (Todd and Brad), and I'm really glad I don't have to watch it on a daily basis. Rockies fans, spoiled? Yes indeed!

And then Hendrickson walks in a run.
At least we won't see Fogg do that for the Rockies this season.

to an announcer using Dexys Midnight Runners in connection to Fowler when he makes the majors?

isn't a good idea, Chris George.

Here's Clarke
Chris George wasn't on the list by the announcer, either. It looks like there was some false information given to the KC guys, who seem remarkably schooled in the subject Arizona Sparrows, however.

Does anyone here know when Greg Reynolds
will be pitching?

by cdavis2488 on Mar 7, 2008 3:44 PM MST reply actions

I don't...
I wonder if he got some action today in the "B" game, as it seems like it's been awhile since we've seen him.

by Rox Girl on Mar 7, 2008 4:00 PM MST up reply actions

Reynolds pitched in the B game yesterday
He allowed one run and four hits in his two innings of work.

by malakian on Mar 7, 2008 4:25 PM MST up reply actions

So he did,
There's an interesting note about him here in Owen Perkins' piece:
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle mentioned Reynolds while talking about the pitching depth he was striving for coming out of Spring Training, explaining that he liked to have eight starters ready to go at the end of Spring Training.

"We've got a kid, Reynolds, that was probably ahead of everybody last year that's working his way back," Hurdle said. "We'll see how he works out. He'd probably be eight and a half."

Is there a place where you can see the details of the "B" games?

by cdavis2488 on Mar 7, 2008 4:05 PM MST reply actions

Unexpected roster move...
According to today's press pass, Sean Thompson was released before the game today.  Seems like an odd move (him being released that is, as opposed to sending him to minor league camp)

by malakian on Mar 7, 2008 4:29 PM MST reply actions

ZOMGZ
We beat the Royals?! Judging from the unholy juju they have over us, I was fully expecting Hollins to crack the game-tying homer and it to go excruciatingly south from there...
