Smells Like Padres in Here - Friday Edition

Stupid, stupid, stupid Brewers.  You screwed up our season last year and you're gonna do it again this year.  I just know we're only gonna lose 99 games.

“There are some major league victories left in Shawn's arm,” Padres manager Bud Black said before last night's game.  Um, probably only if the Padres re-sign him, but whatever.

Gerut may be out for another week.  Just take the rest of the year off, Jody.

The Nationals would like people to attend their games next season, so they are lowering ticket prices.  (Via Drama)

Josh Geer takes on C.C. Music Factory Sabathia tonight.  Sabathia is 9-0 in 11 starts for Milwaukee.  Sorry, Padres.  Game time is 5:05pm PDT.

While the video is entertaining, I also appreciated the BBC commentary.

Smells Like Padres in Here - Thursday Edition

The Padres surge ahead in the race for the worst record in baseball.  Incredible fortitude shown over the last three days as they allowed themselves to get swept by the Dodgers.

Looks like Trevor will be back.  I like this move.  The team is going to be terrible again next year and his role as closer just won't be that important.  Keep Trevor around one more year, save some games and then let him retire as a Padre.

All of the minor league affiliates will remain the same for the foreseeable future.

You know how I know the Padres are serious about losing 100 games?  Because Shawn Estes is back, baby!  He starts tonight against Jeff Suppan in Milwaukee.  Game time is 5:05pm PDT.

Smells Like Padres in Here - Wednesday Edition

The end is near.

More kids are on the way.  And Randy Ready was called up, too.

I have never heard of Dan Robertson, but he's apparently been good this year.

Wade LeBlanc makes his major league debut tonight against Hiroki Kuroda.  Normally I'd be rooting for LeBlanc, but I'm also rooting for 100 losses.  So I'll root for LeBlanc to give us a solid six innings and then have the bullpen blow it.  That sounds good.  Game time is 7:10pm PDT.

Smells Like Padres in Here - Tuesday Edition

Greg Maddux gets some run support and ties Assface on the all-time wins list.  Unfortunately, Maddux is now a Dodger, so the Padres lost.

The Padres are hoping that Antonelli is the new Josh Barfield.

Black may get "creative" with the lineup this evening.  (Please put Adrian in CF, please put Adrian in CF...)

Jeff Kent won't be missed.

On a non-baseball related note, I was sad to read this morning that Captain Mike Ambrose passed away over the weekend.

Cha Cha takes on Sammy Clayton Kershaw tonight.  Game time is 7:10pm PDT.

Smells Like Padres in Here - Monday Edition

They seem determined to not lose 100 games.  This season will have beeen a complete and utter waste of time if they don't.

Antonelli and LeBlanc arrive today.

Kazmar is going to try the outfield.  Oh good.  We need more infielders converted to outfielders.

CY returns to the mound tonight and takes on that old turncoat Greg Maddux and the Dodgers at the Latrine.  Remember when Padres/Dodgers games used to be exciting?  Game time is a strange 5:10pm PDT.

Smells Like Padres in Here - Friday Edition

Underachievers unite!

As 'tec has noted, Hairston is done for the year.

Now that the season is lost, the bullpen is good.

A really nice piece on Sean Kazmar's call-up.

Hardball Times has a little breakdown of draft pick Logan Forsythe.

Simers crushes the Dodgers.  Never gets old.

Dirk Hayhurst makes his second major league startt this evening against Aaron Cook and the Colorado Rockies.  Last year, at this time, this would've been a pretty big series.  This year, I can already hear the crickets chirping.  "Game" time is 7:05pm PDT.

Smells Like Padres in Here - Thursday Edition

You know how I know the NL West is terrible?  The Padres just swept the favorite to win the division.  Much like last year, I look forward to seeing Arizona get run over in the playoffs.

I'll bet Khalil couldn't play first base.  But he may get his cast off this week.

Lake Elsinore will be the A affiliate for a while longer.

I meant to post this earlier in the week and forgot:  a great story about Danny Almonte and a kid he faced in the 2001 LLWS.

Off day today before the Rockies arrive in time.  Good.  This whole sweep business has me a little concerned.  I hope the day off gives the players a chance to regroup and focus on the goal of 100 losses.
