Apples to Apples Comparison Week 3

I think I'll do something like this every Friday or Saturday to try and chart our progress over last year. Remember that the point is to try and draw a more accurate gauge of the team's improvement (or lack thereof) by comparing its performance to last year against the same opponents in the same locales.

2005 First three home games vs. PHI:

Record 0-3

Phillies 21 Rockies 15

2006 First three home games vs. PHI:

Record 1-2

Rockies 18 Phillies 17

2005 First three home games vs. SD:

Record 1-2

Padres 36 Rockies 20

2006 First three home games vs. SD:

Record 1-2

Padres 20 Rockies 9

Overall 15 Games 2005:
Rockies: 65 Rox Opponents: 95

Overall 15 Games 2006:
Rockies: 84 (+29.2%) Rox Opponents: 80 (-15.8%)

Record 2005: 2-13
Record 2006: 8-7

The record speaks for itself, obviously, but underlying that is some particularly dramatic improvement in our team's performance. When you consider how much scoring is up this year across the league, the offensive improvement is muted (it could be attributable almost entirely to Todd Helton's not being in a slump this year) and the gains by our pitching staff become more dramatic.
