Sunday Pebble Report & Futures Game Discussion

Renck believes Jeff Baker should be traded for a "major-league-ready arm." In the same article he also mentions the Rockies could look to trade for Jeff Mathis if Torrealba doesn't get hot.

Marc Gustafson and Tom Runnells talk about Chris Iannetta. Jayson Nix also gets a mention as still being a possible fixture at 2B for the big club.

Not really prospects-related, but this is the second-half rotation: Francis, Cook, Jennings, Fogg, Kim. However, the Official site claims Cook and Jennings switch positions.

Colorado Springs: Sunny Kim pitched a three-hit shutout in the 11-0 victory. Jayson Nix had a three-run homer in the 9th and an RBI earlier in the game, too. Spilborghs added 2 RBI and Salazar, Rivera, Baker and Kim all chipped in one each. Chris Iannetta had 1 hit and walked twice.

Tulsa: Despite out-hitting Springfield 10-9, Springfield was able to win 7-2. Stewart had 2 hits, one of which was a double, and walked once. Matt Macri was in the lead-off spot, had a hit and an RBI. Steven Register allowed 5 R on 5 H in 5 innings.

Modesto: Greg Reynolds did make his first professional start last night as he went 5 innings, allowed 2 R (unearned) on 2 H and also K'ed 2. That was not enough as it took extra innings for the Nuts to lose. Daric Merrell threw a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th, allowing the winning run to cross the plate. Corey Wimberly returned to action last night, but went hitless in 3 ABs. Matt Miller has 72 RBI after plating 1 and Justin Nelson had a 2-run homer in the 6th.

Asheville: Zach Simons struggled for five innings as he gave up 3 runs in each of the the first two innings and one in his last inning of work. He also walked 4 in the 10-6 loss. Eric Young had a 3-for-4 night and stole bases 59 and 60. Cole Garner (23), Dexter Fowler (25) and Chris Nelson (9) also stole a base in the game. Fowler, on the defensive side of the ball, had 2 outfiled assists with the out coming at 2nd base. Nelson, Garner, Cuadrado, Nunez and Cook all had RBI. Rox Girl mentioned yesterday that Becktel left the game as a result of injury.

Tri-City: Tomas Santiago picked up the win for the Dust Devils last night in 5 1/3 innings of work. He gave up 4 runs and K'ed 6. Thomas Baumgardner pitched one inning and K'ed 3. The Dust Devils hitters got the better of Kasey Kiker as they had 4 hits off him and 2 R. Jackson and Strickland both had 3 hits and Strickland also added 3 RBI. Josh Banda hit his 3rd homerun. Despite some of those performances, it didn't stop them from K'ing 12 times.

Casper: 27 hits between Casper and Orem, but Orem was able to win 14-6. It took 7 pitchers for Casper to complete this game and it wasn't pretty for the first three. Esmil Rogers allowed 8 R in 1 2/3 innings, while Drew Shetrone and Henry Guzman both allowed 3 R in a combined 2 1/3 innings. The 7 pitchers combined to K 15 of the opposition, though. Jay Cox had 2 hits, a triple and an RBI. Logan Wiens had a solo home run and 3 RBI. David Christensen had a double, but continued to rack the Ks up as he collected three more. Austin Rauch and Pedro Perez also had RBI.

PuRPs voting will begin later today.
