According to Tracy Ringolsby at the News, the Rockies have signed veteran reliever Matt Herges to a minor league contract. We won't be lacking for options this Spring for our bullpen, that's for sure. Herges was semi-useful for the Marlins last season as a middle reliever who could be used a s a quick fill. His 66 appearances were second only to Joe Borowski on the team.
Most projections seem to have him sporting an ERA over 5.00 even before the park factors of playing at Coors are taken into account, but as with most minor league invites, it's a flyer worth taking if he somehow finds a fountain of youth.
