Scaling the Rox: Diamondbacks 5, Rockies 4; Diamondbacks 6, Rockies 4

Double your displeasure with last night and today's games rolled into one recap column:

Aspect Score Notes
Table Setters Losing Kaz is going to hurt for the next couple of weeks. Yesterday the top of the order got on base five out of ten times.
Heart of the Lineup Pitchers are picking around the middle of our order, as the four walks indicates. They should, these guys also got five hits.
Bottom of the Order Iannetta with two walks and Cook with a hit, but that was it. Still, with all these baserunners we should have scored several more runs.
Situational Hitting/Bench Carroll did decently in place of the injured Matsui, but the score is brought low by critical misses with Finley and Mabry in PH roles.
Starting Pitching I want to give Cook a four despite getting a quality start, as last night would have been one of those we needed an ace to step up and shut down the opponent for longer with BK going today. Aaron's performance wasn't his best.
Middle Relief The writing's on the wall that Corpas and Rami will get higher leverage innings going forward. Affeldt's wildness knocks the score down a bit.
Late Relief Hawkins.
Coaching/Management Worse than the calls with pinch hitters/relievers was the coaching on the basepaths, particularly sending Iannetta home with just one out.
Luck At some point we'll have to make our own luck.
Defense I'm confident with Chris back behind the plate. He's really limited the attempts against us this year and has done a solid job of gunning down those that do try it.

Aspect Score Notes
Table Setters Willy looked to be getting out of his slump yesterday, but he needed a better follow through today to carry him through heaps of abuse the hometown faithful will be putting on him soon.
Heart of the Lineup Not as high as it could be because the D-backs all day dared Jeff Baker to do something to make them regret letting Helton and Holliday aboard, and all day Baker did nada.
Bottom of the Order Only the pitcher's slot was substandard down here.
Situational Hitting/Bench Jeff Baker cancelled out Jamey Carroll. John Mabry hit a missile down the line in his PH appearance, Tony Clark was playing him right there, though.
Starting Pitching Our least effective start of the year.
Middle Relief Buchholz, was shaky but overall effective as the swing man, and Ramirez and Affeldt gave the offense plenty of opportunity to catch up.
Late Relief No late relievers without a late lead.
Coaching/Management It was a tricky situation for Clint with BK getting injured. He needs to light a fire under this team, though.
Luck There will be revenge by the Rockies on the gods of luck.
Defense Another well defended game, without sloppy errors and our outfielders were actually hitting their cutoffs.
