Colorado Springs: Postponed as a result of snow.
Tulsa, L 3-2: Ryan Mattheus had a shaky first inning after allowing two runs, but he came back to have a solid outing: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 5 K. While Matt Daley did allow the winning run, a homer, he did strike out three in two innings. The bats fell mostly silent as Chris Frey collected two of the team's five hits. Rick Guarno appeared as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 8th and had an RBI double to close the gap to 3-2.
Modesto, L 3-1: The bats fell even quieter here as the team managed only three hits. Jason Van Kooten drove in Lino Garcia on a single in the fourth, and that was the most damage the team could muster. Van Kooten (3) and EY Jr (1) each stole a base. Young also committed his second error of the season. Lefty Brandon Durden failed to impress in his High-A debut as he still had problems with his control. In five innings he did not allow a run to cross the plate but he also walked four batters. David Patton allowed two runs on four hits for the loss.
Asheville, W 9-1: Keith Weiser, on the other hand, had a great full-season debut: 5 IP, 3 H, 1/0 R/ER, 1 BB, 8 K. His GO/AO was 3-4 so that's something we'll want to keep track of as the season progresses. Zach Simons made his first appearance as a reliever this season and allowed no runs in two innings. Jay Cox only had two official ABs with no hits, but he also walked thrice and crossed the plate twice. Logan Wiens drove in four on a single, a double and a ground out and Michael Paulk drove in two on two hits. Gomez and Cox both stole a base.
