We should also keep one eye on Sacramento for Rodrigo Lopez's rehab start and keep our fingers crossed that it goes well enough that the team deems him ready to return for the next turn through the rotation. Losing a home series to the Diamondbacks and splitting with the Giants were signs enough that the season is heading south quickly, losing a series to the Royals is a good indication that we're already there.

In his place, Ryan Spilborghs will likely fill a late inning pinch hit role, though I doubt he infringes much on Baker’s time.
