The Springs, W 3-2 in 12: Jayson Nix started the 12th inning with a single to left field and a steal of second base. After he moved over to third by way of ground out, Doug Bernier singled Nix in for the lead. JoKo and Joe Gaetti drove in the other runs. Willy T had two hits and stole a base. Mark Redman allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings, but the six relievers did their job well despite walking seven over the final 6 1/3 innings.
Tulsa, W 5-2: Sean Thompson turned in a bounce-back start, besting Nick Adenhart. Though he stuck out none in seven innings, he allowed only two runs. Adenhart allowed four runs, all unearned. Steven Register closed the game out for his 36th save. Duke Sardinha added two RBI while Corey Wimberly and Chris Frey each had one. Aaron Rifkin was the only starter not to record a hit.
The Drillers need one more win to make it into the playoffs.
Modesto, W 3-0: Alan Johnson picked up his 14th win after throwing six innings of two-hit, no-run ball. He struck out nine and walked four. Tomas Santiago picked up his seventh save. Chris Nelson was a homer short of the cycle in his 4-for-4 night and stole his 27th base. Jeff Kindel and Nelson Robledo drove in two of the runs.
Asheville, currently losing 0-1: This game was suspended due to rain after the completion of the top of the fourth inning. Josh Sullivan took the mound and struck out six.
Tri-City, W 8-5: Cory Riordan was knocked around for five runs on ten hits in 4 1/3 innings. He was bailed out by the bullpen trio of Matthew Reynolds (who allowed the only hit after Riordan left the game), Joey Williamson, and Riquy Pena over the last 4 2/3 innings. It was a lively night for the bats with multi-hit games for Helder Velazquez, Darin Holcomb, Philip Cuadrado, Jordan Pacheco, and Brian Lapin. Cuadrado, Pacheco, and Lapin each drove in two runs.
Casper, W 4-0: Parker Frazier's found some success in the month of August, and last night's performance can be included in that list. He had a mostly clean sheet after pitching six innings. He allowed four hits and no runs, and walked and struck out none. Andres Marrero and Juan Nicasio put up mirror innings of relief, allowing no hits and walking and striking out one. Jeff Cunningham, hit a two-run homer.
