Ubaldo Jimenez' father gets to see his son pitch professionally for the first time tonight, and hopefully U-ball Sr will get the result we all want.
Something like the result we got last night would be nice. The signing of Jeff Francis to an extension last off-season should be considered at least as positive a move for the team as the Jason Jennings trade. Last night Franchise kept one of the NL's most potent lineups off balance to put a pretty solid claim for ace of the staff.
Arizona won again late last night, keeping the Rockies three and a half games off the division lead, and yesterday they picked up a couple of ex-Rockies from the waiver wire in Byung Hyun Kim and Jeff Cirillo. These moves amount to buying some lottery scratchers on the part of Josh Byrnes, and if either have any impact on the pennant race, I won't be the only surprised one.
Two other former Rockies infielders appear to be at career crossroads, Juan Uribe's tenure with the White Sox is in the air given his contract status for next season and Neifi Perez' career in the MLB has to be very much in doubt after his third strike (second suspension) with MLB's drug policy.
