The more things change, the more they stay the same. Our starting second baseman last season missed several games with lower back stiffness, so it should be a familiar thing to us that our projected starter this year, Jayson Nix, was scratched yesterday for the same reason. Nix says that this is typical for him, but that he should be fine in a couple of days.
The other injury concern in our lineup, Brad Hawpe, got plenty of AB's in yesterday's minor league contest by batting every inning, and he figures to get the same number today to help him catch up for missing the past week.
Ubaldo Jimenez's start was more encouraging than the line score indicated. The Rockies have been watching both he and Morales this pre-season to see how they respond to adversity -as pitching at Coors, that's going to be an unavoidable job hazzard. Jimenez passed his test, much moreso than Morales in his last start, let's see if Frankie can make things up today.
