Colorado Springs, W 10-7 - The bats came alive for both the Sky Sox and the Rainiers last night, as they each had 12 hits. Ian Stewart (3) and Sean Barker (1) both had a three-run home run in the contest. Those were parts of a three-hit and two-hit night for the two. Joe Koshansky (2) chipped in with a two-run shot also. Seth Smith and Christian Colonel had the other two RBI.
Josh Towers went 7 2/3 IP, allowed all seven runs on 11 hits, and gave up two homers. His sixth inning saw the most damage as he allowed four runs on a solo shot, a one-run single, and a two-run double. Steven Register recorded his second save.
Tulsa, L 1-5 - Justin Nelson hit his first home run of the season, a solo one, for the only Drillers run last night. Chris Nelson and Corey Wimberly both had a double. The defense committed four errors, two by Chris Nelson (both fielding), one by EY Jr. (throwing), and the other by Justin Nelson (fielding).
Xavier Cedeno went five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. Edward Valdez allowed the other two runs. Ryan Mattheus had a clean sheet in his one inning of relief.
Modesto, L 3-7 - Better results for Shane Lindsay this time around, but there was some wildness thrown in there. It didn't start off well for Lindsay, as he hit a batter to start the inning and threw a wild pitch during the next at bat. He would then finish the inning with three straight ground outs. The second inning saw Lindsay walk two batters (his only walks on the night), hit a batter, and throw another wild pitch. Yet, Stockton only scored one run off Lindsay last night, that coming off a sac fly in the second inning. Lindsay allowed only one hit, which came in the fourth inning. Tommy Baumgardner pitched the sixth before giving way to Andy Graham. The Nuts were up 3-1 when he entered. His line was not pretty: 3 IP, 8 H, 6 R. Looking at the play-by-play, three singles (one off a bunt) in the seventh inning resulted in one run and two men on when Josh Horton came to the plate. He smacked a triple to score both men. A sac fly immediately after that scored Horton. The other two runs came in the ninth.
All three runs came in the second for the Nuts. Daniel Mayora had an RBI double, Cole Garner scored from third after the catcher had to throw to first after Nelson Robledo struck out, and Repec drove in Mayora. Cole Garner had a 3-for-4 night and hit his first double.
Asheville, W 7-3 - The balls boomed out of the park last night for the Tourists. Kevin Clark (solo), Lars Davis (two-run), Spence Nagy (solo), and Helder Velazquez (two-run) each had their first home runs of the season. For Nagy that was part of a three-hit, two-steal night. Everth Cabrera went 0-for-5 and struck out twice, and Darin Holcomb had his fifth double.
Bruce Billings failed to make it out of the fifth inning last night, pitching only 4 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on eight hits, walked three, and struck out four. Edgmer Escalona picked up the win after pitching the next 1 2/3 innings. He allowed only a hit. Craig Baker threw two innings of relief, struck out two and allowed three hits. Craig Rodriguez didn't record an out, but walked one and allowed hit. Randall Taylor has three saves after striking out two in the ninth before getting a ground out to end the game.
