Ubaldo Jimenez and three home runs helped seal the victory for the Rockies today. Jimenez allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out two in six innings. Also of good news for him, U-Ball had 12 of 16 ground outs in his time on the mound. His two-seam fastball was clearly working today:
"That was my two-seam fastball," Jimenez said. "We were getting ahead of the hitters and were pitching well inside, so I threw two-seam fastballs and they hit a lot of grounders."
Jimenez hit 98 mph consistently during the game, but at times he was also way outside the zone, coming close to hitting a batter or two.
Sal Fasano hit an absolute bomb to start the home run barrage, and Todd Helton and Ryan Spilborghs also knocked balls out of the park.
THE BIG QUESTION: Ian Stewart hit an RBI triple in the fourth. What will his role be with the Rockies?
I didn't catch this during the broadcast, but Tracy Ringolsby reports that Drew Goodman mentioned that Clint Hurdle told Ian Stewart to start manning second base during practice.
The smaller question: Should Sal Fasano seriously be considered as the backup catcher for the Rockies? The Rockies appear wedded to Torrealba because of the money, but you can't deny the power of the 'stache.
