So how should we feel heading into today's contest against the Dodgers? They are a worthy foe that bested our Rockies 11 out of the 14 times we've previously gone to battle. Should we ruminate on how the season has been successful anyway and mentally resign ourselves to a coming defeat? Should we pretend that the Rockies failure in those past contests did not happen, and go forward in blind denial of how they've been our superiors this season? Point of fact, the Dodgers are now 64-49 against the rest of baseball when not playing the Rockies, the Rockies are 69-44, or five games better, when not playing the Dodgers. They would not be the beast that they are if it wasn't for the Rockies, and we would not be in second place if it wasn't for them.
No, we should invoke the baseball gods to give Jorge De La Rosa the strength to send this apparition back to the bowels of the cave. We should continue the message that the Rockies will keep coming back. That they will have to beat us not only today, but they will have to keep on beating us until we are stone cold dead because we will not quit on this season.
RUGEN
You must be that little Spanish
brat I taught a lesson to all
those years ago. It's simply
incredible. Have you been chasing
me your whole life only to fail
now? I think that's the worst
thing I ever heard. How marvelous.Inigo sinks
....
COUNT RUGEN looking very much surprised.
RUGEN
Good heavens. Are you still
trying to win?RUGEN
You've got an overdeveloped sense
of vengeance. It's going to get
you into trouble some day.Inigo watches the Count approach, and the Count flicks his
sword at Inigo's heart, and there's not much Inigo can do,
just kind of vaguely parry the thrust with the six-fingered
sword and Count Rugen's blade sinks deeply into Inigo's left
shoulder.Inigo doesn't seem to feel it, his other agonies are so much
worse.....
INIGO
(all but audible)
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya,
you killed my father; prepare to
die.
The message is, win or lose, this doesn't end today. There will come a day when the Dodgers receive their reckoning for the wrongs they have wrought upon the Rockies this season, for their utter disregard for the teams on their tail. There will be respect given to Colorado, respect that will be earned.
