At the postseason-roster and waiver trade deadline tonight, the Colorado Rockies acquired SP Jose Contreras from the Chicago White Sox, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.
According to Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune, the Rockies are sending AAA pitcher Brandon Hynick in exchange for Contreras.
The White Sox are sending an undisclosed amount of cash to complete the trade.
With starter Aaron Cook on the DL, the Rockies have been looking for a 5th man to fill the rotation as they continue toward the postseason.
From a financial standpoint, Contreras is in the final year of a deal that pays him $10 million this season--$2.7 million left on the year (meaning that with the White Sox's payment the Rockies will likely be on the hook for about $1.5-2 million in return for Contreras' services).
