The Rockies kept reserved most of their players for their home game this afternoon, with only two starters (Ian Stewart and Carlos Gonzalez) and two bench players (Miguel Olivo and Ryan Spilborghs) making the trip to Hermosillo, Mexico. Still, the lineup rapped out 13 hits and seven runs, highlighted by two singles from Ian Stewart, a single and triple from Jeff Kindel and a home run from Brad Eldred.
The offensive burst would not be enough, as Esmil Rogers got rocked for four runs (three earned) in two innings of work. Greg Smith got touched for time this spring, allowing two runs on seven hits in four innings. The mediocre outing does nothing to remove him as a favorite for the sixth starter in my opinion, especially with Tim Redding's outing stateside.
One particular note: Eric Young Jr went 0-for-4, dropping his spring average to .103. Even though he feels like his swing is improving, he'll be hard-pressed to supplant Melvin Mora on the bench come April.
