Below are the notable conclusions that can be drawn from today's apparently rain-soaked contest between your Colorado Rockies and the St. James Parents:
- Jason Hammel looked like a fifth starter for the first time all spring.
- It appears that my information about the Rox supposedly struggling against Kevin Correia was incorrect; after doing some research (it's fun, I should try it more often), I found that they battered him last season (.894 OPS) and continued to do so today. MY BAD.
- Get Chris Gissell out of here.
- The Rockies are going to continue to be aggressive on the basepaths, even if it costs them. At this point, however, it's okay.
- I've got nothing.
Hammel had a poor outing, but I'm quite sure he'll make a full recovery. Meanwhile, Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, and Chris Iannetta went yard off of Correia. Unfortunately, Nick Hundley exacted revenge with his own homer (off of the aforementioned Gissell) as part of a 5-run sixth inning for the Friars.
Rafael Betancourt did indeed return for the Rox today, allowing a run and a hit, while striking out one, in his single inning of work. Randy Flores also pitched, as scheduled, and tossed a scoreless frame. Matt Reynolds had a slightly ineffective inning as well, as he gave up a run on two hits.
