The Rockies used a seven run third inning, highlighted by a three run Troy Tulowitzki home run as a catalyst for a ten to six victory over the Reds on Thursday afternoon. After four scoreless frames to open the game, starter Ubaldo Jimenez could not quite make it through a fifth inning that saw him give up back to back home runs to Jonny Gomes and Laynce Nix and three runs overall after Nick Beirbrodt came in with the bases loaded and allowed Aaron Miles to score on a Joey Votto walk. Justin Speier and Matt Belisle kept the Reds in check from there, however Juan Rincon allowed the Reds to bring the tying run to the plate by allowing three runs to score and loading the bases in the ninth before recording the last out.
Tulowitzki, Todd Helton, Miguel Olivo and Clint Barmes each had two hits for the Rockies, who improved to 14-9-1 in the Cactus League to date.
