Rangers 7, Rockies 6: Rangers wrangle Jason Hammel in fifth inning, come back late in game

Jason Hammel wants that fifth inning back. He did all right through the first four innings, though Bob Apodaca visited the mound in the second inning after a walk followed a run scored. After a mostly quiet third and fourth innings (there was a leadoff double to Nelson Cruz in the fourth), Hammel allowed four runs in the fifth inning. Josh Hamilton scored the first run on a sac fly. With two out, Hammel then saw Vlad Guerrero hit an RBI single and Nelson Cruz knock out a two-run homer. Hammel ended the inning by striking out Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

With the score at 6-5 Rockies in the bottom of the seventh, Rafael Betancourt didn't hold the line when Vlad Guerrero hit a sac fly and Chris Davis singled in a run.

Joe Beimel pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning, inducing  a pop out and two ground outs.

Offensively, Ian Stewart hit a two-run home run to right field off Matt Harrison in the second inning (2-0 Rockies) and a had an RBI single in the fifth to tie the game at five.

GO ROCKIES!
