Rockies 3, Dodgers 1: Greg Smith celebrates (possibly) earning a spot on the 25-man by dominating L.A.

If Greg Smith really does make the 25-man roster (as suggested here by Tracy Ringolsby), he did a lot to ease the Rockies and their fans of any possible concerns regarding the decision today, shutting down the Dodger offense en route to an easier-than-the-score-suggests victory over the guys in blue.

Smith tossed four scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out four. Meanwhile, Todd Helton hit his first homer of the spring, connecting off of L.A. starter Josh Lindblom in the first inning, which plated Carlos Gonzalez (who doubled two batter prior). In the third, Dexter Fowler tripled off of Lindblom and scored on a Brad Hawpe single to make it 3-0 Rox. Smith and the bullpen continued to blank the Dodgers until the eighth inning, when Matt Reynolds allowed an RBI single to Reed Johnson to cut the lead to 3-1. However, Reynolds got out of the inning, paving the way for Matt Daley to polish off the Dodgers in the ninth, earning his first Spring Training save.

Tomorrow, the Rockies will face the Diamondbacks in the final Spring Training game at Hi Corbett field (as well as the last ST game in Tucson). The game will be televised on FSNRM and MLB Network.
