The Colorado Rockies bade farewell to Hi Corbett Field today with a 4-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jason Giambi drove in three of the Rockies' four runs with a long two-run single in the bottom of the first (EY reached on a walk and advanced to third on a ground out and a Seth Smith double) and then drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fifth. A Jay Payton sixth inning single put the Rockies up 4-1.
Ubaldo Jimenez finished his Spring Training tune up with mostly good results. He walked Conor Jackson as the first batter of the game and gave up a four-pitch walk to opposing pitcher Kris Benson in the third inning. Neither came back to haunt U-Ball. Eric Young Jr. botched a ball hit toward him by Stephen Drew in the fourth inning, resulting in an error. Drew eventually scored that inning, but EY Jr. made up for his earlier error on the play Drew scored on. Chris Young scorched a ball to center and turned past second, but then retreated back to first. Unfortunately for Chris Young, Chris Iannetta threw to first base, which EY covered. With a behind-the-back, no-look tag, Junior got the final out of the inning. It was the play of the game.
The D'Backs attempted to mount a comeback in the ninth when Tim Redding entered the game. He walked the first batter of the inning, allowed a run on a double, and then saw the game turn to a one-run lead after Radames Nazario made a throwing error to 6'5" Brad Eldred (who stole a base in the game). John Hester ground out to EY Jr. who threw to Nazario at second base to throw out Jeff Bailey for the final game at Hi Corbett Field.
As the game came to a close, both Troy Renck and Thomas Harding tweeted that Huston Street stopped his throwing program. Shortly thereafter, we learned that nothing has changed; rather, Street is just upset that he won't start the season with the club.
