Rockies 11, Mariners 11; A tie in Albuquerque just one sign we're not counting these yet

The big Rockies news tonight is obviously the Jeff Francis/Greg Smith announcement, so be sure to check out Wolf Marauder's post next one down.

Rockies starter Aaron Cook gave up five runs in three innings and after Tim Redding gave up four more, this one seemed to be in the books in the Mariners favor, but a resilient Rockies team led by four home runs (one each by Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Spilborghs, Brad Hawpe and Brad Eldred) rebounded to come up with the eleven eleven tie on Friday night.

Four Rockies relievers, Rafael Betancourt, Randy Flores, Matt Belisle and Franklin Morales shut down the Mariners for the last four innings after Cook, Redding and Esmil Rogers allowed all eleven Seattle runs to score in the first five. The Mariners had 16 hits against those first three pitchers but just one against the four relievers who are going to be on the opening day roster.

Meanwhile, Hawpe, Eldred, Melvin Mora and Clint Barmes (who hit two doubles) each had multiple hit games for the Rockies. In a nice gesture by Jim Tracy, Jordan Pacheco, who is an Albuquerque native, also saw some time tonight, getting a hit in two at bats.
